Hand : Anybody got arthritis in there hands ?? My doc... - NRAS
Hand
Yes mine was the first sign of RA. But they can tell the difference very easily for CT as their is a pressure point on the wrist and you leap through the roof it hurts so much.
Yes i have it in my fingers and they are chunky and don't bend very well either.xx
I have it in my hands they are now very deformed and I can no longer make a fist hold a pen or cut up my food or fasten up my clothes
I get carpal tunnel but it's my RA that causes it,
RA caused carpal tunnel in both my wrists. Feet hurt first, then swollen trigger fingers, carpal tunnel next and then my knees lost cartilage etc etc ....
It is a terrible disease isn't it .... nothing is safe

It started in my wrists and then spread to other joints including feet
yes I had a scan and they can tell you if its ra or ao lucky me has got both
I had carpel tunnel many years ago and it was operated on. It did relieve some of the pain. Listen to what your Doctor advises.
Thank you everyone for your prompt replies x
My RD does affect my hands and fingers. Years ago I did have mild carpel tunnel symptoms - must have had it for a while as I was sent to a consultant but in the end I never had surgical treatment and it improved on its own but cannot remember whether it corresponded with a change of drugs. Farm
I have it in my hands they are deformed all my fingers are bent at the tips and they all lean to the side wave effect i think you call it and cant wear wedding ring as my knuckles are very thick and like others cant make a fist so yes you get it in your hands
I had my carpal tunnel done twice. The consultant said the second time he didnt know how much it would help as I had a lot of Arthritis nodules in my hands. It did help for a while but no longer , my hands are very painful.
Chris
Yes, mine are really playing up at the moment. Luckily at the moment the only deformities are in my right thumb, one of my left knuckles and left wrist.
It's quite a unique pain in my fingers, like electric shocks but the whole of my hands feel achey.
I have both RD & OA in my hands, it's the OA that's causing me the most trouble. The Heberden's nodes can be red & nadgy pretty regularly. It was inflammation of RD that caused carpal tunnel, my left was worse than my right when I had nerve conduction tests so I had CT release surgery on it & it's been ok since but my inflammation has been pretty much controlled. The right hand hasn't worsened as a result.
Ask if you can be referred to Neurology to have a nerve conduction test Denise, that should help determine the trouble. x
I had carpel tunnel ops in both hands 7 years ago which took away the pain completely although the surgeon said I had the start of osteoarthritis in my thumbs and injected them at the time of op. Then 5 years ago OA started in my knees, hands and feet (now in neck, wrists, elbows and hips too). Rheumy isn't sure if the inflammation I have is from OA, RD or weight problem. I also have fibromyalgia and the Drs seem to put a lot down to that or OA. Cant have new knees because of weight so they are just getting worse. But OA in my hands have given me nodules, stiffness and swellings. Carpel tunnel was just constant tooth ache like pain. Hope you get sorted out soon. gentle hugs Joolz.xx
Yes My hands are terrible can no longer grip to open jars , hold tools etc.
Big painful lumps, joints in terrible pain.
Yes I also have it in my hands so painful. Doesn't help with having raynauds also in my hands. The pain is unbearable at times
I suppose my fingers swelling to the extent I had to have my wedding ring cut off was carpel tunnel. I know that medical people train for years but they do not know you like you do. I was diagnosed with period problems, kidney problems and then depression. That was correct because I was depressed after a year of being called a liar and malingerer for a year.
RA can cause carpal tunnel but you will also normally have problems in other joints if you have RA. Carpal Tunnel affects the hand from the thumb to the middle of the ring finger. The little finger is not affected as it has a different nerve supply.
In my case I was able to reduce Carpal Tunnel symptoms by wearing braces at night. I often folded my arms while sleeping putting strain on my wrists.
Hi everyone, I have RD & also had the carpel tunnel op which has made a massive difference, I sleep at night now, still get a lot of pain in my hands, I have just been recommended Flexiseq ointment, has anyone used this or heard of it ? I brought it from Tesco's today, and already I've seen some improvement, my knuckles were very swollen & sore, it has taken the swelling down & taken a lot of the pain away , I'm still taking the meds that the hospital prescribe, I'm amazed how quickly it has started to work, I was told by this person who also has RD he swears by this, the only problem is it's very expensive £18.50 a tube, but if it works & stops the pain & swelling it's worth every penny,
