I had it on tablets and they were reduced and folic acid increased but ask your consultant or gp as could be another cause. I had Pernicious Anaemia and that caused hair loss. Am on injections now but hair loss has reduced but must be the MTX now although I have no other side effects at all.
Hi Cat, I was on mtx tablets 15mg and had to come off them due to hair loss. After trying leflunamide, sulphasalazine then hydroxychloroquine I finally went onto injectable mtx building up slowly from 7.5mg to 20mg. At 20 mg I noticed a marked increase in hair loss as well as peeling skin in my mouth, mainly at night. My rheumy reduced my dose to 17.5 and the loss has reduced. My hair texture also went awful on 20mg, I could hardly get a brush through it. This appears to be improving too on the lower dose. Unfortunately the dose isn't adequate to control my ra so I'm joining a clinical trial for Humira. It's all trial and error but hope you get to the bottom of it soon. I'd mention it to your GP though in case it's not related to your mtx at all. Best of luck Paula x
I lost quite a lot of hair with mtx and leflunomide. Thankfully, my Rheumy was sensitive to it and changed me to biologics. I now have a full head of hair again. I encourage you to speak to your doctor about it. Hopefully he/she will have some helpful ideas!
