Just started 200mg hydroxychloroquine and I've always had thin hair but a lot of it, and its not even a month but my hair is so staticky and very loss of hair. Has any one experienced.

hi

I took it for a year and yes - i definitely saw a thinning of my hair along with texture

It’s never recovered. Sadly!

Oh no really? I just starting taking meds and to be honest I'm ready to stop taking it to see if me hair stops thinning. It's almost as if my hair is staticky and stripped from having any body

I stopped taking it eventually during the pandemic. I’d begun to get bloodshot eyes every few weeks and wasn’t convinced they weren’t triggered by hydroxy…

It’s a good but old drug.

Since I started taking my skin has been itching more so around my neck line and back. I just hope I can have my thin hair back and stop the process of thinning any more.

Oh no! I’m due to start Hydroxychloroquin next week and I don’t want to lose my hair. I’ve been on methotrexate for about 14 years and I haven’t lost any with that.

Hi I am on 400mg I have fine hair so far so good we are all different. I did lose quite a bit prior to going on meds and taking HRT.

I don’t mean to discourage you, I’m not sure if I haven’t given the medication time to work but i can’t say it helped with symptoms because i wasn’t having any symptoms. I went to see rheumatologist because ANA test was positive. And she prescribed medication🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve been taking 200mg daily since about 2015 and haven’t noticed any hair loss. My hair always gets a bit of static but I think it’s because it’s winter, the central heating dries everything out, I’m always putting on hats plus I wear more synthetic clothes which I’m sure is the reason. Sometimes I get a static shock when I touch the car door. Doubt if it is anything to do with the hydroxychloroquine.

I’m on 400mg a day and have been on hydroxy for many years now. I have very fine hair but always have had. I seem to lose hair when in a flair, then it calms down again. I lost my hair when I had lymphoma 5 years ago now during chemo so I know the difference of losing it completely to thinning hair. I am trying out this expensive shampoo regime atm, early days but I think I’m actually seeing a difference, my daughter thinks I’m mad to pay a lot for this shampoo but I know how you feel, I’d keep taking the medication, it works for me and it’s work in progress with the shampoo. Take care

I am on this drug, and been on it for 5 yrs now ,it has worked for myself, I couldn't get out or in the bath and could hardly walk but this drug has worked for me

I still get flares now and then more in the winter than the summer, the wet and cold but i am no way near how bad I used to be before this drug

my hair is thin though but I always had fine hair so not sure if this drug makes it any worse or the RA condition??

hope this drug helps you as much as its helped me x

I have been on hydroxy for well over 25 years, it was the methotrexate that made me lose my hair! x

I was on hydroxy for 25 years and never noticed any hair loss from it. Stress can also cause hair loss so if you’re newly diagnosed and you’ve only been taking it a few weeks it could be that and not the hydroxy.

Thanks to everyone that responded to my question..I’m just confused if I should have given the medication time to see if my hair texture changes and if it’s just due to the weather. It just seemed to coincidental. I don’t have any symptoms for lupus I tested positive for ANA so that’s how I was diagnosed for lupus.
