Hi Charlie1315,

Could be the start of a cold. I had same symptoms last week, floored me, didn't know what it was.

Plenty of rest, keep warm, lots of fluid. I found 4 hourly paracetamol helped with the spiking temp (sweaty/cold/hot).

With me it is a side effect of Fibromyalgia. I don't know if you have that or not. Look your disease up and see what it says about side effects.xxxx

This happens to me. I've mentioned it to my consultant who didn't seem bothered.

Do you have a diagnosis of RA Charlie? I think autoimmune diseases show up in so many ways and one common problem is temperature control. Feeling cold, then hot, shivering uncontrollably for ages was a very noticeable symptom when I had my first big flare. For me, the thing that has pretty much sorted this is getting the disease under control. I still feel the cold more than I did, I still get hotter more quickly than I'd like, but it is no longer extreme.

What's happening with treatment with you at the moment? You could try taking your temperature at times if this is a constant problem and not due to a cold etc. Then write down the results for when you see your rheumy. I would think that doctors will take this seriously in someone so young (though of course they should take it seriously whoever's experiencing it).

Oh gosh. I am sorry to hear you've had to have surgery. I wish you a great recovery. That kind of surgery must be quite a shock to the body which could well explain what's happening. I think you should get yourself to the doctor ASAP. It may be nothing much but in the circumstances I am sure your GP will take a good look at you and refer you on if necessary.

Look after yourself and do tell the doctors what is happening, I'm sure they would want to know and they are the only people who can either help sort it or give you reassurance.

See your GP ASAP. It could be signs of an infection.

What did you have surgery for?

And I'm wondering what brought you to this RA site .... did you just take a look and think "Hmmm, they seem to have just about everything wrong with 'em, they might know what's happening to me ..." You wouldn't be far wrong LOL! But really, I am so glad you do not have RA. And we people here are unlikely to be able to get our heads around this .... take good care!

This is terrible to hear of someone so young having to go through this, makes me very angry! I'm a good bit older than you and although I went through all the 'sweats' due to the menopause they all returned with a vengance when I was diagnoised RD.

I have asked everyone what the cause of this is.......most say its medication, another told me it was inflimation due to the disease......no one has ever told me the exact cause, they were more or less guessing.

I wish I could tell you something to help you. I haven't read through the other replies yet to see if anyone else can be of any help to you.....and me! I just had a thought, do men who have RD have the same condition? Just wondering!!! All the best luv anyhow. J.

Are you on painkillers such as patches or any painkillers which be addictive. Check out your medication, or consult your Gp.

Some painkillers can cause such symptoms, my advise is that you consult your doctor. It seems that you are being cold turkey.

Check the written information that you were given when you were discharged, or it may be in your pre op package. You'll find that it's listed as a normal side effect after heart surgery & it will pass given time. If you feel you'd like some reassurance speak with your GP he/she will confirm the same. Other things which you may find is food or drinks often taste differently too, some things you liked before your op may not be unappealing for a while.

I hope it doesn't last too long but if you still have problems by the time you go to cardio rehab classes mention it to the rehab nurses.

Not what you're looking for?
