My doctor has just took me off diclofenac and put me on naproxen is anyone else on this medication does it help with pain
Naproxen: My doctor has just took me off diclofenac and... - NRAS
Naproxen
Naproxen did nothing for me so went onto Diclofenac but doctor wanted me to come of it after 3 years as Dotor didn't like Diclofenac. She said that Naproxen was the lesser of the 2 evils. Now on
Methotrexate 20mg injection 1/week
Sulfasalazine 500mg 4/day
Folic Acid 5mg 1/Day not Thursday
Cyclizine 50mg upto 3/day
Lansoprazole 15mg 2/day
Tramadol 50mg 1or 2 every 4 hours up-to 8 max/day
Paracetamol 500mg 2 every 6 hours 4X/day
plus Berlind 75 retard 1 2/day
plus others to counter act these
Crazy isn't it
Yes 2 x 500mg a day ( I think!) and I couldn't live without it! It really helps me and I know if I have missed one! hope it helps you too xx
It worked well for me. I was on it for 2-3 years, then I had a bit of bleeding 0 possibly from my stomach lining - and my GP swapped me to a more gastro-resistant Cox-2 NSAID, Etoricoxib.
Oh I'm on a tummy protector. Lansoprazole once a day x
I've been on both. They are both NSAIDs (anti-inflammatories) but Naproxen is believed to be a bit more kind on your stomach, and a bit safer to take long term. Personally, I got on far better with the diclofenac, but everyone responds differently to the different NSAIDs, so its worth trying different ones.
I'm afraid I've tried naproxen for two different problems including RD but it's not one that does it for me. I've always had good result from COX's & COX-2's, etoricoxib being the one I've been taking longest. It is necessary to have CV checks though, I have one annually but it's worth it for the relief it brings. That said it's not enough for me just now so having injections hopefully soon, I'm down as urgent anyway but not holding my breath!
I hope it works for you, it is a good NSAID for many, kinder on the stomach.
I was on it then onsultant took me off it because he said it wouldn't work with the other pain killers I am on. I am now back taking it once a day for my neck as I have Athur in there as wll and I have to say it does make it easier. Xxx
I've been on naproxen for almost 10 years. I certainly know if I don't take it. Diclofenac didn't agree with me but it was the only 2 weeks I had without pain.
I get headaches that eventually make whole body ache, I've started using Naproxen again in the morning and before I go to bed, so far, it keeps me from getting really sick.
I had big issues on Naproxen and diclofenac.
I was on naproxen on and off for 24 years (diagnosed at 18months old). Unfortunately I lost a kidney. (I dont want to scare you.. but be wary of any bleeding) - lanzoprazole should help to protect internal organs.
diclofenac for pain sent me into a depression spiral - so I quickly came off those!
ive now had three Steroid injections *miracle workers* spread over the past 12 weeks.
just started sulfasalazine (DMARD) and hoping soon they will kick in and help to get this damned disease under control again!
best og luck for you
I've taken Naproxen (with Omeprazole to protect stomach) for quite a few years and not had any problems. I had been on Diclofenac for a number of years but doctor took me off them as Naproxen is safer apparently. Naproxen certainly helps me - I certainly know about if if I forget a dose (which is rare!).
So glad to read your report. I have recently started Naproxen, which has certainly helped. But I wasn't sure whether I should be on it long term. However I have an appointment with a Consultant Rheumatologist on 7th August, so will hopefully get a proper diagnosis then and advice on which medication to take.
I too was taken off Diclofenac, didn't work for me. I am now on Naproxen, three weeks now, and certainly helping. Good luck.
It's so interesting to read the range of responses - Naproxen doesn't seem to do anything at all to reduce my pain. Hope it does more for you though.
Were you taking prescription doses of Naproxen? Its important to remember that the recommended over the counter dose of NSAIDs is usually only about half the dose that a doctor can prescribe, and for things like inflammatory arthritis, you really do need the prescription doses, and to take it regularly, rather than as required. Of course, if you are taking prescription doses regularly, it goes without saying that you need to be under medical supervision with it (which is why the otc doses are so much lower).
