Swollen lymph nodes

Has anyone here had experience with swollen lymph nodes? Nodes in my neck have been swollen for several weeks without any noticeable illness or cold. I don't know if this is a common thing with RD or if I should be concerned. Thank you in advance for your replies. =)

Hi Olive,

The only RD med I am taking is Humira. It seems that every time I raise a concern with my doctors about something, it gets brushed off, so not sure what to do.

Only one thing for it you will have to get stroppy. GP first take someone with you,Wright questions down, take notes of answers this is we're having someone with you comes into play they are the note taker , Keep your voice level and slightly low forces them to listen. Tell them you are not happy .If you come away still not happy go back few days later

When I went to GP with nodes in neck swollen I was fast tracked and with a ENT CONSULTANT in 16 days

If hospital same drill but the rummy nurse becomes the person you contact every few days .You might have to come across as more scared then you are but if it works good luck

If its not related to a sore throat or similar illness, and its lasted for a couple of weeks, then I'd definitely go see my GP about it to rule out anything more serious.

Thank you, earthwitch. I have been thinking the same thing.

With my RA it comes and goes. Sometimes a day sometimes a week Or two..like two golf balls stuck in my neck.albeit my nodes are lower than "normal" apparently. .still the same end Result.

Sulphasazine can cause parotiditis I.e. Swollen parotid glands. I had this quite badly until the Consultant reduced the dose and I have been reducing the steroids that I have been taking for the last 2 years which may well have contributed to the situation. I would talk to the Rhemy nurses and ask to see the Consultant ASAP. You need to find out what is wrong. Good luck.

Hi shareasmile

I would consult a gp and if u don't get any joy tell your nurse specialist too to be safe. I have had swollen lymph nodes under my arm and across my clavicle. They have gone now. Maybe it's an immuno suppression thing?

Let us know how u get on

I had swollen nodes in my neck for many many years and as soon as I started PSA treatment, they went away! I went untreated and undiagnosed by my choice for many years. It is usually a sign of some kind of inflammation. I would go to Dr to be safe!

I had a swollen lymph node a couple of months ago, like you I kept going to the doctors who just kept brushing me off so I called my rheumy nurse and she spoke to my consultant who fast tracked me to ENT within a week. I had a scan, camera down my throat, luckily it turned out to be a harmless cyst but you just never know until its investigated. Best to get it checked out ASAP.

Thanks for your reply Metal-legs! Funny thing about all this is that 2 different doctors told me they were swollen. Then I went to a third doctor whom I completely trust, and he said that I was feeling my hyoid bone. Then he proceeded to order multiple blood tests to be thorough and all turned out fine. I have decided that this RD makes me a little crazy about every thing that doesn't feel just right. It plays mind games with my head. Time for me to get over the paranoia!! I will still be vigilant but hopefully not crazy!!

I don't think you are been crazy at all. It's good that you are mindful for anything that feels abnormal and you are in your right to ask for it be investigated. Having RD can make us open to other issues so it's good to be aware.
