Been on my 1st dmard for 2 days azathioprine got throat infection, hot cold shivering, hospital said to stop taking and see my GP. If it happens again when I restart taking it they will have to give me another drug. Has anyone else has problems on this or similar drugs they will start me on methotrexate next

I was on that drug just been taken off it myself as was being sick every day on it thought it was a side effect and would pass but didn't I can't go on any other drug as trying for a baby hope they get u sorted

Yes definately contact the doc. One maybe possibly you were heading for a flu before you started the drug but I would still err on the side of caution that it is a drug side effect. Hope you feel better soon and get checked out ASAP xx

I took remicade and had horrible side effects. Now on Kineret and doing much better. Have been on methotrexate for 15 years.

i have been taking azathioprine together with omeprazole for 18 months now and have had no side effects. please note that it takes a few months for it to affect your immune system so i doubt your throat infection is due to lower immunity brought on by azathio. unless you can't tolerate the medicine, i would suggest that you carry on with azathio and treat your infection as normal i.e. with anti-biotics. good luck.
