skin infection/psoriasis

Hi all,

just a quick question? I developed cellulitis 5 weeks ago and had to have intravenous antibiotics (into the vein). Since then I developed widespread psoriasis which is still on going. I have had to stop both methotrexate and Benepali 🤦‍♀️Which was working well. Have since re started methotrexate but awaiting to start JAK - the side effects are enough to put you off all RA meds (scary). The pain However in my knees in particular are horrendous and I struggle with the stairs. ( I am only 45 😢). The last couple of weeks have been hell.

Also does anyone have an issue with their skin whist taking methotrexate in the sun 🌞.

Oh Suzie45 I do feel for you! I am presently sat in bed having returned Thursday from hospital after 3 days iv infusion of antibiotics because I managed to stab myself (stab is dramatic it was a prick really) in the hand with a small sharp file. My hand swelled up like a boxing glove and cellulitis and tenosynovitis was the result. I had forgotten how much we need to be careful on MTX - I am now on oral antibiotics and hoping it clears and doesnt trigger anything else. How horrid that yours has turned to psoriasis! As for the sun - I am aware that we can easily get skin cancer on MTX and have noticed my skin freckles much more now than it used to (age (I am 63) or meds??) so we need to ensure we aren't out in it too long - use a very good spf sun cream etc. I am now far more respectful of that advice given the experience of my hand! I do hope things clear up for you - RA is miserable enough but psoriasis on top is just so all encompassing painful and tiring! Take care and keep safe!

Aw thank you 😊. It’s been a rough old ride but I think I’m starting to come out the other side. I have never really enjoyed laying in the sun but I am far more mindful of the risks and always had to wear factor 50 being fair with red hair 🤦‍♀️. Your right it can be miserable on times living with RA. I can’t physically do what I use to and having a 6 year old who is constantly on the go can be tough in times.

Hope you feel much better soon, plenty of rest and take care xx

So glad you feeling you can see light at the end of the tunnel! yes it can be challenging with a 6 year old but such a blessing to have them around making us smile and can keep us going when perhaps we might not be so inclined. I hope you both can enjoy some rest over the next few days and you continue to recover well. 🙂

It's known to increase your sensitivity to the sun - so cover up with light weight clothing, Factor 50 (children sun creams I find are best) and stay in the shade as much as possible.
