and the new drug is...................

Abatacept. RA nurse has ordered it, and given me the info box, plus instructions on the injection (I thought it was going to be infused, but no, I shall inject). She thinks it wont take to long for the delivery company to get it organised. Only off putting thing about the injection, is that it is a 'proper' needle (which I can see) rather than the enbrel 'pen' type.... I expect hubby (who usually does the jabs for me) will get that evil look on his face as he approaches, with needle poised :/

I'm really pleased Lablover that it's been sorted out. In inject MTX with a proper needle..what you will get used to do it...I wonder if you inject the same way I do for MTX.???!!! On another subject how are your lovely Labs? As I told you I used to have Oliver (because he always wanted more!) my scrumptious black Lab..still miss him. Maryx

Thank you Mary. I just take 8 pills mxt, am doing well on them, so far. As you say, I will get used to it. My boys are well thank you, giving me plenty of cleaning up to do..they seem to drop hair constantly, lol, and Gwyn, considering he will be 8 months next week is still joined to me at the hip...and he just stares at me all day..weirdo, lol.

I think it may depend which part of the country you are in and which company are distributing. I had a few teething troubles to get the first delivery which Rheum nurse had to sort. Hardest part was having the drug sat in my fridge and not being able to inject. The training nurse said she would not be able to come for 12 days after delivery until my rheum nurse intervened and managed to get it down to 8 days. I have had 3 injections so far and have already seen improvement although suffering a couple of days after injection but very early days (just hope bloods hold up). The needle is very fine and goes in easy but as I have only used pre-filled syringes before I cannot compare to pen.

I think it is the healthcare at home service, I had them when on enbrel, and they were very good (N.Wales). I was offered a nurse, but said I would manage (well, fingers crossed, lol) . Great that you are seeing an improvement, long may it continue :)

Good to hear it's all sorted now for you, hope you don't experience the same 'service' me & Debbie had when we started!

Shall keep everything crossed your nurse is right and you get started this year. Sally Xx

My rheumy asked me if I was negative or positive, I replied negative and he said that's bad luck because I was going to try you on the new meds lol and it's only for people with positive blood results, cheers doc and thank you.

HEHEHEHE , I'll keep laughing for a good while yet lol, I hope it does what it says for you.

Hi

My delivery was due on Monday but they rang to say there was a problem with the van. So its coming next Monday. Not sure whether to expect half a delivery or a whole one!

Seems a bit silly sending fewer injections out over Christmas, when most peoples delivery days Will be changed anyway:)

My abatacept comes via Bupa Healthcare Delivery Services. I did question having to wait for nurse as had previously injected for 10 years (Enbrel and Humira) but it was suggested that I waited. (West Midlands area). Hope yours arrives soon as this is the third drug (after Rituximab and Tocilizumab) I have tried this year and the only one which has shown any improvement and only 3 weeks in.

thanks all .. let's hope that delivery has not changed since my last meds, the enbrel that stopped in July. I have been reading bad experiences from a previous post, regarding delivery. I am hoping I get the same van driver too.. always nice and good humoured (but then he was a scouser like me (and Debbie, here). I will keep you all posted :)

Good luck all of you with your deliveries with HAH. Mine was due yesterday between 8.42 and 10.42am, it finally arrived at 11.30pm! This was only because I pushed and pushed and fought for a delivery (after a previous failed delivery 2 weeks ago & having taken 2 days off work already & no injections left!) but they didn't tell me it would be that late at night. Keep an eye on the time tracker as mine changed to 'delivery failed' - fingers crossed for you.

I think you are all very well sorted.....I have to go to the hospital pharmacy to collect my injections!!!

I sympathise - I have to collect my methotrexate injections from the hospital pharmacy too. It would be great to collect my Enbrel at the same time, then I wouldn't have problems with work from having to take time off repeatedly at short notice.

I have been on Abatacept now since July and for me it is a mirical drug!!! It has been that good, for me. After I was on it a few weeks I woke up one morning and I knew something was different but I couldn't put my finger on it.......and then I realised.....I had no pain......I know that might sound silly but when you have been in bad pain for nearly two years it was such a rear feeling that I didn't recognise it. I had to fone my friend and tell her....."I don't have any pain", I cried over the phone.....it is now December and I am still the same. It has completely changed my life. In fact I go for my last infusion this afternoon and then from December if go on self injecting.

Lad lover , I wish you all the very best with this drug. I should say that Abatacept was my seventh drug so I was bound to get one that worked for me wasn't i?

I have to say I don't like the idea of the needles.....but if it works as well as the infusion I'll soon get over my silliness.

Good luck anyhow and let us know how you get on.
