I am so happy to finally be free of smoking but on the other hand I feel down.

I was on day 8 yesterday and felt the exact same way. Burst out crying while washing the dishes for no reason at all. I also felt quite poorly, had a sicky feeling and felt fat. It was definitely a poor me day. Feel down again today but I know smoking won't help, so have told myself "to suck it up buttercup".

I'm off to buy something that smells nice, at the moment this is my favourite thing about not smoking. I don't stink and I can smell. I'm then going to look at a new exercise and fitness regime to get fixated on. I'm hoping to start incorporating healthy habits to take the place of my not so healthy habits. I think im in need of good old dopamine fix and one that won't make me any fatter or worse put me in a box earlier.

Find a positive, treat yourself and remember you will feel worse being a prisoner to nicotine again. Stay strong

Hiya and thank you Roisin01. I've been a creepy lurker the last week reading posts ECT. Best quitting tool hands down. I must say hello to everyone now I'm sticking this quit out.

Welcome Jason38NC , congratulations on 8 days smoke free, well done!

The down feeling is perfectly normal at this stage of your journey and will pass shortly. ir is known as the 'grieving' stage as we come to terms with not having our cigarette crutch any longer. As Doswan rightly advised, be kind to yourself as these feelings/withdrawals are only short term.

Below are links to some pinned posts on withdrawals worth a read if not already done so:

Thanks today was good. Work is a good distraction. I have a goal I am working towards so when I feel like its too much I think of my goal I set for if I quit smoking
