Do you know how much time -years take to auto clean the lungs? (for heavy smoker and ligt smoker) When you quite smoking

Hi chronis, it can take a long time! I developed a cough after three months and was told that it was the cilia in my lungs cleaning out the last of the garbage. I smoked a pack a day but I'm not sure if it's even longer for a heavier smoker.

Have a look at some of the pinned posts on the right hand side, I'm sure there is something about timelines in there.

As a smoker I didnt have cough at all, now almost one year free of smoking still no cough ,. I'm vapping now with e-cig

I think it just affects different people in different ways. Some get a cough during the clean out process and some don't. You're one of the lucky ones!

Took about a year to rid of the short cough and the "ahem" attacks to clear out my lungs.. Smoked for 30 years , been smoke free for over one year..
