I'm now in month two of my quit. In the first month I felt such a sense of achievement and new energy but now in month two my immune system seems to have taken a knock with colds and sinusitis and just feeling tired, flu-ish and generally yuk.
I vaguely remember a doctor once telling me that when a person quits smoking their body is at first quite susceptible to germs and one can expect to catch colds and flu etc.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I would have liked to have some bouncing good health to prove to my husband that I did a good thing. At the moment he's still puffing away and glowing with health. While I'm sitting wrapped up in a blanket feeling sorry for myself. It should surely be the other way around?

Imagine how much worse our cold and flu would be if you were still smoking. It could be you would have caught those bugs anyway but would have felt a whole lot worse if you were still smoking. Part of the reason for my quitting was a terrible cough that felt like an infection. Since I had my last puff on Monday the symptoms don't seem nearly as bad as they were.Have to say;well done you for staying a quit a month.
It's the body, especially the lungs & respiratory system cleaning itself out. Mucus and other toxins, so it is a good sign. From what I read the average is 8-12 weeks until you start feeling better. You are almost there.
Hey Becky, I am also actually out sick this week with sinuses and just feeling rotten, thanks to work colleagues coming into work dosed and passing their germs and the brutal weather we are having at the moment!
I too was feeling sorry for myself and thinking why am not feeling healthier 12 weeks smoke free and was being paranoid since the start of my quit that I left it too late and every little tingle in my body I was thinking what is this!?! As Karri said its the time of year and everyone I know seems to be sick, smokers and non smokers...
I made a big pot of chicken and vegetable broth yesterday - highly recommend it, great free medicine, also for the sinuses, try vapourizing with vicks or eucalyptus oil
Hi Becky. I didn't experience any increase in colds in any of the times I quit. After some people claimed they did, I looked it up, and the only scientific thing I could find was that in the first week of smoking cessation there was an elevated risk. I suspect it is the gunk clearing itself out of your system, coupled with the increased likelihood of catching something this time of year.
Becky. How are you doing? I haven't seen any updates from you lately...you good?
