Been off the cigs for 21 full days now thanks in a large part to reading this site most days. Thanks to all the regular posters for their encouraging words to people trying so hard to be better/healthier people for the rest of their lives.
First post but I've been lurking for weeks. - No Smoking Day
First post but I've been lurking for weeks.
And a huge welcome Canwes!! - 21 days is amazing!!! good for you, and so pleased that you found the regular posters here as inspiring, as much as I do!!!. Great bunch here for sure, and we always have room for another, so pull up your chair, join in and share your journey! When you decide to quit, it is so much better in the company of others, so in fact, that I've found it can be rather
fun in a weird twisted kinda way:rolleyes:
Thanks Que. We're obviously on a different schedule this side of the pond, lol. I was 4 or 5 days into my quit and watching a video on how best to quit that made me realize holding on to a partial pack of cigs really wasn't that smart although I felt it was a good test, the truth is I may have caved in a 'real' dilema and since the closet place for me to get cigs is at least 10 minutes away I felt good destroying the pack I had and leaving me with at least a 10 minute window in which to change my mind if I got weak.
I'd advise other to do the same, simply not worth the easy temptation.
Yeah - I couldn't keep any cigs on me at all, I tried and failed too many times. Its worked for some people I know, but not for me - I always caved . My thought was why have them if you don't plan on smoking them - just smoke them damn it and get it over with....so I did:eek: 10 minutes is a good amount of time for you to come to your senses, but I found its even better it you add another 5 min, by sitting in your car before you even leave home, and self talk yourself out of a really bad decision . Craves can last for a while, but at this point its not really a physical crave, so they can be relatively short lived, if we can steer our thoughts on to something else. btw - your in the US ? where you located?
Welcome Canwes and congratulations on your 21 days!! I'm one of those people who kept a couple of packs of cigarettes in the cupboard for the first two years after I quit. But, to my surprise, one day I took them out of the cupboard and somebody had been stealing them!! To this day, I still don't know if it was the cleaning lady or my daughter, but it certainly wasn't me, LOL.
Welcome Canwe Congratulations on 21 days - great going. I carried tobacco with me in my bag for the first 2 or 3 weeks, and still have an unopened pack in my kitchen (I have quit for 11 weeks). I think it was so that it felt like a choice I made for myself rather than imposed by anyone else. The main thing is that you think these things through and have a strategy.
Sounds like you are prepared, look forward to hearing from you 😆
Welcome Camwes
I have ciggies on hand but the funny thing is it doesn't tempt me strange as that nay seem, it's obviously a crutch that is fulfilling its requirement, however it's not for everyone and welcome to the site and for your 3 weeks in, keep posting this is an amazing site and supporters we don't want to let go of
Welcome Canwes and congratulations on 3 weeks already. You should move yourself to the appropriate room.
Que, I'm in Canada. It's 7:30 a.m. here right now and I'm off to work soon. Thanks for the nice welcome everyone. As Walkabout has suggested I'll be moving myself to the appropriate room this evening on this, day 22 of my quit. Have a great smoke free dayy all!
