Do you have to give reasons ?

Just had a visit from a smoking friend. I'm not stopping anyone smoking in my house, I used to do it.:(

But.. this friend said "Oh I enjoy smoking, it relaxes me, helps me do things why did you give up?".

What do you say??? It's a killer? It costs money? It stinks? Its an addictive drug?

'cos you want to stop is a good reason!!

Technically of course, it doesn't relax you at all - it just relieves the cravings the last fag gave you!!

Trying to convince herself too IMO - I bet she knows she doesn't have to inhale pesticides to do things and feels bad 'cos Bluebell's free

Why would she feel bad?

Well I certainly did when one of my friends quit, and that's not uncommon.

Really

Yes, it's pretty common, as Kat said

Tell her "I used to stink. You still do. Get out of my house".

Lol :D

Er...maybe not.

Ultimately people need to convince themselves that it's their time to quit.

Actually, I expect by the time most people decide, they don't need much convincing.

Good luck with your dilemma, BB, and most of all: Well Done!!!

Kat knows how to do the trick

Just seems like a daft question to me - everyone knows WHY we should quit - we just spend a lot of time justifying why we don't or didn't.

Are you sure your friend didn't mean what gave you the impetus to quit.

:confused::confused:

Just my 2p but I would make people smoke outside! Or at the very least hanging out the door/window. Yes it's something you used to do - the key words being 'used to' - you don't anymore so others should respect that.

My other half goes outside now, unless it's the middle of the night and he can't sleep, in which case it's in the lounge, door closed + window open.

My response to unhelpful people asking 'why did you give up' was quite blunt: I DON'T WANT TO DIE. Usually shut them up :)

I think that's what HE (male friend) was getting at really Andy. I thought after it was as if he justifying smoking - hey how enjoyable this is  - so why stop ??

I think we all have to come to the decision in our own way, in our own time, and no matter how many times non-smokers said to me 'You really should stop' that didn't even make me consider it.

I am so pleased I stopped, I will NEVER smoke again, the benefits of not smoking are huge and people smoking near me really doesn't bother me at all (I thought that would be difficult).

We are all doing well, with ups and downs of course, but we are doing it.:D

Let's all keep going strong. bb x

Funny thing being a smoker

You see other people stop and it leaves you with mixed feelings.

A bit of jealousy that they are doing it and you aren't

A bit of guilt cos you know you should be

A sense of loss at one less buddy in the smoking area

An element of desperation that the clock is ticking and you still haven't quit yourself.

There is a lot said about the addictive element of Nicotine but there is also the mindbending aspect too.

He will get there when he is ready
