Popping back to say hello... because...

Today is three years since I threw my last cigarette to the ground in disgust.

Lots of you won't know me, but I was a regular on this forum for about two years. This last year I have disappeared - couldn't help feeling I had outlived my usefulness, and I really only ever thought of cigs when on the forum, and felt it was time to put it behind me completely.

I think of smoking now and then. I suppose a couple of times this year I've thought 'if I still smoked, I'd so be smoking now!'. But one deep breath, and the feeling goes away. I'm completely free. Three years ago, I never thought I would be!

I promise all of you just starting out, that this is an achievable goal. I remember thinking I would always want to smoke. You do have to persevere through some tough times and taking it one day at a time is vital. But the day WILL come when you don't miss it, need it, want it, or even think about it any more. I swear to you.

Merry Christmas!

Helen

Looks like lots of people remember you Helen. I know I do as it was you and Karri that welcomed me in Feb/11. I'm about 60 days behind you and as you say, just have the occasional false memory......

Merry Christmas

Thanks everyone! xxx

I must say it's nice to see all these old familiar people kicking around. I was worried I'd come back and people would go 'who the hell are you?'

Feel all warm and fuzzy now. Much like one of Carol's cats.

Fantastic!

Hi Helen

Congrats. Lovely to hear from you, especially with such good news. You were always such a star with your support and words of wisdom.

I also don't get on here much these days, probably for similar reasons as you. In a little over 3 months, I will hit the 2 year mark. At 2 months, I didn't think I was going to make it to 3 months, let alone to 2 years. Funny how dogged determination gets us through, but we know its the only way to beat the monster ...

Happy New (smoke free) Year and all the best for 2014.

BW, Shazza :D

Yay, Helen, I come back and you've been on. So pleased to hear that this is all just second place to you now. I found your journey such an inspiration, so much more than others, because you had to just grit your teeth and get on with it for as long as it took for your mindset to change. You made my quit on more than one occasion with your straightforward advice and compassion and I have no shame whatsoever in saying that. You are one heck of a lady and I thank you.

Thank you for coming back and posting and I hope you'll come back again and again, like, what are your plans tomorrow? :D
