Hiya Kim
Oh the work stress one is a pain isn't it?
I used to go out to Leper's Corner and have a fag or two but I think it wasn't the smoking (although it obviously did shut up my craving - read this somewhere, stress is acid and nicotine is an alkali so stress gets shot of it faster?) it was more down to being away from the cause of the stress for 10 mins or even better, bitching to one of my workmates about it.
So the best thing is to breathe deeply like Kat said, if you can get outside then do it and chew some gum too
A combination of deep breathing (I honestly think taking time away from my desk to have a fag was what calmed me, not the actual fag, so I just get away from my desk and take the same deep breaths), sipping a tall glass of cold water slowly and, if really going into major hissy fit mode, Rescue Remedy!
Hang tough hon, you're going to be ok, just hang in there!
Hi Kat,
I hadnt thought about rescue remedy, does it help?

Morning Gemma
I will get away from my desk more - just have to learn to cope with it at the immediate time as if there is a problem i have to sort it out straight away and the thought of being able to have a fag in the past got me through so i need to try and think about things in a different way.
Im going through loads of packets of gum! I thought i had a problem before but now its even worse lol
It has helped me, it takes just enough of the edge off to put the anxiety back within copable limits
The gum ones work well too, and they're tasty!!

Oh I know exactly what you mean!!
You have to have another reward though - coffee, sweet, something to take your mind off it
It ain't easy, but you can get there!!
Lol, you know those cardboard packs of Extra? i chewed a lot of gum before 'cos smoker breath isn't nice, but early in in my quit I was on one of those packs a day
Ive printed myself a free kids calendar page from freeprintablebehaviorcharts.com
And Ive been putting stickers on it at work
I take a 5 min walk when my colleagues annoy me, just around the building and then i stick my mp3 player on and listen to my fav tracks.
I know some people cant do that but just think what would you achieve by smoking? It doesnt help the situation, it just makes you smell bad and then you get disappointed in yourself for un-doing your hard work.
Work sucks! just grit your teeth have some chocolate or sweets and try and zone out for a few minutes.

Yeah I had to stop buying those cardboard packs because I was eating them too often! Why is regulation so hard??
I'm in such a bad mood today it's unbelievable - I hope it wears off soon

Thanks Sammi
I keep telling myself I haven't got time for a break but I always managed to get out for a fag! Stupid brain, it's like it wants to wallow in the frustration.
And you're right about music - it always helps me to feel better if I listen to something angry lol
So I ended up smoking too much, chewing too much, buying too much and so on
Sames. Mines drinking to much and thinking to much lol.
Come over here and sit in the grumpy corner!!
Am in a foul mood too, whic Nic is trying to exploit
xx
I'm half way there already so make room! I had a right go at my friend at lunch becasue she said something that annoyed me - its a good job she's known me for a while!

I don't drink too much *whistles innocently*

Ooh heck!!
Plenty of room in the grumpy corner, and it's comfy.
Lol, I asked one of my friends if i was a bitch early on in my quit and she wouldn't answer

Oops, sorry Melzee, only just saw this! It's a herbal tincture type thing, you'd probably find it in a health food store out there, Bach's Rescue Remedy. You can get it in the chemists and the supermarkets here these days because it's so popular.
IME stress actually decreases as you progress through your quit. A major stress is your body's want for nicotine so as that want declines both on a physical and psychological level you are left with just the actual stress of the situation which is a lot less than when its bundled into a nicotine fuelled stress package.
I'm not a religious person but there is a bible quote which stuck with me after a particularly stressful time So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. In other words don't spend your time worrying about tomorrow, just deal with today as best you can.

That's a very good way of looking at things and I for one need reminding of that as I always focus on the long term when it comes to quitting

Definitely agree with Nic
Always thought smoking kept me calm, helped me deal with stress etc and really leant on it when I felt angry, stressed or down - but having quit am much calmer than when I've smoked.
Didn't notice that in previous quits 'cos I didn't want to do them (so i sulked instead) but this one has been a real eye-opener for me!!
