Tinnitus increase...

The last 2 days I've noticed that my Tinnitus has got a lot worse...I keep muting the TV as I keep thinking the damn thing's on the blink! Has anyone else had this? I certainly haven't noticed this withdrawal symptom from my quits before (unless I was so busy battling with Insomnia & depression the last time) & in relation to this, the dizzy spells have got worse. Just wondering if it's yet another trick from Nick or whether a trip to the Docs is in order (which is a prize pain as our Docs are short of 2 so we have to plan to be ill at least 2 weeks in advance!)

Sounds like a trip to the doctor might be worthwhile. I got really poorly with pleurisy during week 3 of my quit and I've also had some dizzy spells. My tv volume has been switched up higher lately, but I am assuming that is just my age (although I'm not even 40 yet) rather than a side effect of not smoking. My eye sight in one eye is also a little blurrier than usual. Perhaps it's just because we are noticing these things more as we have more time on our hands now that we are non smokers....

You should really visit your GP - tinnitus and dizziness together, there could be inner ear problems. It's not quitting related, I'm pretty sure of that!

Hope you feel better soon x

Oddly, I've just Googled it (fatal, I know, lol...) & it actually says on Wikipedia

Avoidance of caffeine, nicotine, or salt can reduce symptoms,[61][62][63] but, tinnitus can also be induced by reducing caffeine and/or smoking

So...if it carries on past Monday, I'll make an appointment...eventually! ;)

Tiniti and Dizziness

Your posts were very interesting to me as I am in week 3 of quitting and have had extreme dizzines and my tinitis has REALLY kicked up! I do believe these are quit smoking symptons and I feel reassured and actually encouraged by your posts - means we are all making progress KICKIN THE DEMON:)

I found I had to turn the tv up but also put it down to old age. However, about a week ago I had to turn it back down. Maybe just my body recovering.

I have had massive increase in my tinnitus since I quit...really great to know I am not the only one! ... I am so tired yet I can't sleep and that extra noise is not helping but I know in time it will get better :) well done everone for quitting ...hope it lasts xxx

Smoked 15 - 20 sterling fags a day

Started when I was 12 - 21 years a smoker!

The rest of my life now smoke free hopefully :)

Hotrod, how long have you given up smoking?

Hi HotRod :) Welcome aboard. Bad luck with the tinnitus - my mum has always suffered with it so I know it's extremely un-fun. Hopefully it'll calm down soon! xx

Just to add...............I have had tinnitus for about 7 years now. I eventually put it down to ageing, mainly because no medical investigation has helped me (doesn't necessarily mean that is the case for others!). It has increased since I stopped smoking. Maybe it will reduce over time. But definitely visit your GP. The last time I brought this up with one of my GPS, he sympathised and told me how debilitating he found it to his sleep pattern.

Welcome :)

Welcome....I am now 2 years smoke free....I won't lie, it has been hard...however, this might help you carry on & I hope it does. I have always suffered from Tinnitus...it got worse when I quit as did my health generally. It now turns out that, thanks to my quit, I have several serious health problems that were hidden because the GPs put the symptoms down to smoking. I have also recently just been diagnosed with COPD & Bronchiectasis...thanks to heavy smoking. Luckily, this has given me an extra kick up the rear to continue the quit as the cravings have been pretty strong again lately...but, knowing that going back to it could well be fatal, this has made me completely ignore the bl00dy insidious call of Nick O'teen. Keep fighting, people...you can get through this...&, hopefully, you will quit in time to make sure you don't make my mistake

I have also noticed bad tinnitus and horrendus dizziness last week. I put it down to the champix so cut the dose, but also read up on it and it is a symptom of stopping smoking, its to do with the oxygen getting to the brain better! Kind of shows how bad things were when we smoked! Im also a paramedic and see so many people with copd it has to be my driving force to make me stop. I would rather be dizzy than be on oxygen and fighting to breath, so frightening to see. Im sure these symptoms will pass.
