Well decided to do it I am giving up smokinh, I have been smoking since i was 16 so that is 15 years this year (god i feel old) been smoking around 25 - 30 a day!

went to docs this week and got myself some patches, I am on day 2 doing well so far couple of cravings on last night that was awful (but i had taken my patch of maybe thats why?!)

Really just joined for a bit more support i suppose, my fiance is great he has done what ever he can for me so far!

Well done,

Keep positive, and you can get through the cravings and withdrawal!

Only on day 7 myself so I'll let others give you tips.

Cheers

Nic

I was on patches when I first quit. Forgot to put one on one morning and was halfway to work before I realised why I was getting these cravings. Always made sure I had a spare in my bag after that.

TKDJohn will probably give you all the tips you need with his websites. I know a couple are Allan Carr's book and whyquit site.

Just keep reading, drinking water, have a shower or bath every time you feel a craving coming on. Failing that shout and scream, preferably at no-one in particular or take it out on your pillow.:D

Oh and nearly forgot - keep coming on here for support. There is plenty to be found.

Oh and yes (forget my head if it wasn't screwed on) welcome to the forum

Don't know what to say

I am extemely determined but can't really make sense of anything right now...my head is spinning and I can't concentrate on my work!! The Nicotine Monster is really doing his best to convince me that I am overreacting and that smoking is fine... I can't believe how difficult this is!! People are amazing that they can just so candidly say they gave up smoking!! - it is a HUUUGGGGEEEE achievement as far as I'm concerned.

Let's do this thing - we are crossing the chasm to a new reality

Welcome Pindy and Gregawana:)

No one says it's easy. In truth, for most people it's not. But remember it is up to you if you want to be someone who doesn't smoke any more. There is a lot of excellent advice on this forum - look about a bit.

It does get easier - honestly:)

You'll soon be clocking up the first week, then the first month and before you know it, you'll be the ones telling the newbies how to cope!

Keep at it!!

Well done!

Hi there Pindy,

You are doing really well. My day 2 was awful, but I'm taking the gum so if I get a craving, I just ram one in my mouth! However, I am now on day 4, and not a puff lol.

I've only needed one gum 2day, so that's good. All the carbon monoxide is gone so I feel so much more energetic AND I've saved 16 pounds and 92 pence by not smoking 60 fags. That just makes me feel great!!

Good luck to you all. We can all do it!!!

I'm not sure there is any magic advice. For me its purely a mind-set, if you want to stop (really want to stop), then you are a good way towards actually stopping.

I am coming up to 7 months and still get occasional thoughts but that is what they are, thoughts.

For most of us here, we have smoked all of our adult life so it is bound to give and have some reaction. Just stay strong and remember why you first wanted to give up.

Get yourselves a quitmeter which are free to download and you can monitor your progress both in time and money.

My name is Gary I have stopped nicotine for 6 months, 23 days, 11 hours, 23 minutes and 56 seconds (205 days).

I've not smoked 6164 cigarettes, and saved £1,709.56.

I've saved 21 days, 9 hours and 41 minutes of my life.

Good luck............................................:)

Welcome

Have to say it is great to see so many new quitters, time this place had some fresh blood so to speak...

Good Luck (in no particular order) philip_ross, gregawana, pinky and NicFirth :D

Have a nosy round and read forums like

(john left me in charge of his job)

whyquit.com

woofmang.com

quitsmokingonline.com

smokeworm.com

All of these sites helped me enormously at the start of my quit (4 months in and no 'blips')

;):D:)

Day 3

Wow! thanks for the help everyone...looks like my dad is following my lead...going to be sending him some information pronto!

Feeling much better today - healthier and less craving...hope it lasts...but I don't care if it doesn't since I won't be smoking again anyway.

Have you tried nuts, especially if they are coated with honey or chilli.

Salt and Vinegar nuts are the ....well the nuts really!!!

I could eat them forever - but there in lies the problem...

Grapes=Low Fat

Nuts=High Fat.

Still all things in moderation I suppose.

To bring it back to a "sensible" level, I'm kind of craving stuff that sets the saliva glands going, like tortilla chips and hot salsa dip.

Yesterday though, when I tried to get a packet of refreshers I found that they are now chewy things and not what I wanted :(

All fattening stuff I know but stuff it, I burn up quit a lot of calories doing martial arts and I'll sort out any weight I've gained when I've sorted out the coffin nails.

Cheers

Nic

Hence why i am trying to be a good girl and stick to fruit! but Nic i know what you mean about wanting to set the saliva glands going i just haven't found it just what i want yet!
