What it is with alcohol and smoking and why it can ruin so many quits??

I'm trying to get my head around the smoking trap but this is the part that keeps getting me!

I gave up drinking when I started my quit because I knew from past experience it weakened my resolve and I always gave into smoking if I had been drinking in the early stages of quitting.

I am a few weeks off 6 months and the only alcohol I have had in that time was a couple of glasses of wine on Xmas day. Going away this weekend and may have one glass with a meal, but have not felt I have been missing out on anything by not drinking as it was always linked to smoking for me. Best thing I ever did for my quit was to stop both at the same time.

When drinking id have smoked 20 cigs in one night easy, ive drank 3 nights since quitting, yes i wanted a smoke with it but held out each time, its not to bad because i think i forget about them the drunker i get

I'm fine with drinking, I decided straight away that I wasn't going to give everything up so I still enjoy my wine & don't want to smoke - no point giving everything up... I'd end up a bloody nun :eek:

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to take the same approach to stay away from alcohol until i`m feeling confident in my quit! Went to the chemist today and made my stop smoking session appointment for Saturday morning! I need to get back on the wagon before nicodemon takes complete control again!
