i can barely stand it anymore

it's been 3 days, 5 hours and 24 mins and it feels like it's getting harder, not easier. i am barely talking myself out of having one. arghhhhhhh i don't want to have gone through 3 days of this for nothing but it doesn't seem like it's going to be worth it. somebody tell me there is a point when you get to the 'other side' and it doesn't feel at all like this and you're glad you quit. right now i can't imagine it and i'm running out of reasons not to smoke.:(

  • day 3 killer...IT WILL GET BETTER!!!

    Keith,

I suffered hugely on day 3 but beleive me when i say IT DOES GET BETTER!

Once you get thru today tomorrow you will not want to smoke even more because you will not want to do day 3 over again! (Hope that makes sense!)

Stick with it, go for a walk, chew some gum or anything you want to eat (you are entitled to it!) Just DONT give in!

    Hugs xxxxx

  • Keith!!

As all have said day 3 is devil sent and tomorrow, just a few hours away will be easier.

You have done so well!! don't give in x x x

Try anything and everything to help you!!

  • THANK YOU everyone for the encouragement

    well it's 3 days, 19 hours, 5 minutes, 59 seconds and i haven't smoked yet

it is alternatingly awful and 'ok'. not as bad as yesterday, at least not yet!!

i am kind of sad though, that i never get to smoke again. i love smoking and i miss it and it's sad that i never get to do it again. that probably sounds dumb but it's true.

  • it does make sense, it's just...

...hard to believe right now, that someday i will be happy about this decision. i'm sticking with it, though. going to give it 2 weeks and see how i feel after 2 weeks! i hope by then i'll be happy about this, because right now i'm definitely not!!! thanks for your reply ;-)

  • keith hun,

i feel for you, it is hard, no one can deny that, but u have done so well, dont give in now. Treat yourself to something, anything as a reward but def not a cig, u will be glad in the end, take care xxxxxxxxx

Well done for getting this far, I am on week 4 and can tell you that it does get better, sometimes you might not notice the small changes but at the end of each week you add them up and say wow, that XX is so much better, the things I've found better are

My Clothes smell clean and fresh all day.

My hair is less dry so needs less conditioners so it shinier.

My skin is fresher and brighter, less wrinkles already.

My taste buds are clean so everything tastes better

My sense of smell is stronger- I can smell a ciggie at 100 paces, don't know if thats better or not ;)

My nails are stronger, don't know why but I noticed they don't break as much.

I can run up the stairs and still breath.

I walked 20miles and had no muscle cramps, more oxygen to the muscles I guess.

    I'm sleeping better

I can kiss my OH more (don't have to worry about ciggie breath), which is sexier, so better *uhum*

    I've saved ££££££'s

Thats in just 3 weeks.... I'm sure others will add theirs on and you'll see why it is so important to continue. I hope that when you get to 2 weeks you can start your own list too.

    **HUGS**

I feel the same as you i love smoking, but smoking does not love me if that makes sense, i too miss it sooo much but i will not let it destroy me as it has my Father.

You must not give in it pains me to write this this as i feel exactly as you do but im not prepared to die for it, my wife and my boys need me to be here and healthy, and you know as well as i do that if we carry on it will be the death of us.

I used to take heart in the rare stories in the tabloids of peeps living til they were 100 and smoked all there lives these peeps are lucky very lucky like lottery winners and i for one am not prepared to take a lottery with my life.

Keep strong i know exactly how you feel

    Good luck

  • We need to experiences lows to gain full strength highs

    Yin and Yan x x x x

Go with it and allow yourself to be low,

smoking blocks that and keeps things on an plain,

If you can get through the lows,

The highs to come will be tenfold x x x x

Sorry for sounding deep but it is what I feel ;)

Don't panic about never ever smoking again just take it as this hour you choose not to.

Play each hour that way and don't panic!!

  • Oh, but we all loved smoking, that's for sure - doesn't matter if it was due to the power of the addiction, we all perceived smoking as this great, fantastic, abso-f***ing-lutely pleasant thing we could not do without...Yet we are doing without it and it feel SO much better than before, than expected, than hoped!! But you have to fight with teeth and nails, Keith, grabbing for dear life on to the decision to quit, consider it a done deal the moment you put out that last cigarette, and stay quit no matter what, focusing on the endless benefits that every new smoke-free day brings to your life.

You do have the strength inside you to do it, you only have to really want it :D

    OH FRANCESCA YOU SWORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol

    Seriously Keith,

You will feel so much better for not smoking - just give it time.

Some one once told me 'quitting smoking is very hard, but having chemotherapy is even harder.............................

  • 4 days...I can't believe it...I really can't....

you guys are inspirational. i keep reading your posts and it helps.

i feel like i might be getting stronger tho it's a minute by minute thing. i don't know why i haven't slipped yet really - which tells me i must be serious about this. also i don't want to go through this more than i have to.

did you guys find that you were more social after you quit smoking? i have shied away from people because people in san francisco don't smoke much and it's definite outcast behavior. i'm thinking maybe i'll end up with more friends, or feeling like being with people more.

this still feels a little like a bad dream.

  • I definitely seem to be more out there and have nothing to hide smoke free,

It is quite taboo to smoke around these parts.

The last times I have smoked between quits have been like a 'make my excuses and leave' so I could smoke!

A big turn around in the last decade x x

    Ps rightly so ;)

  • Hello again Keith

Just hang in there mate. Look my hubby is flying out to SF tommorrow and he has to make areturn trip there in a couple of months time (only me and daughter will be going too) Point being its an 11hr flt from here and I am determind NOT to crave a cig there and back. I want to enjoy my flt and my time out there. I want to fed those damn seals on the beach without fear of dropping my cigs in the water! I want to be able to go to the napa valley on a wine tasting tour and actually be able to smell and taste the differences in each one! I can't do any of these things Keith, if I smoke. Stay strong mate!http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v411/hells/11_12_10.gif

  • didn't even think of the plane!

i'm leaving for washington dc on Friday to visit my brother's family and it's a 5 hour flight...i will have 6 full days under my belt by then and maybe won't even think about smoking. well that's wishful thinking but maybe....

have you ever been to san francisco before?? love it here, i think you will too.

  • I've not actually been to sf b4 but hubbys been twice already this year and he's got a promotion at work which involves being in charge of the London end of things here and the San fran end of things (the office is somewhere in the financial district) Last time he went (back in june) he called me in the middle of feeding the seals there. God what a noise!!! Sounded like he was ina dog pound or something! I hope to get out there in the next few months. NON SMOKING!

  • Ahem .........

    Ooooooh sorry guys x x

Just wondering, when are you going to visit London!! and which part??

    Hey keith x

If I am ever fortunate enough to visit san fransico, I'm crashing at yours ;)

  • you'd be more than welcome ;-)

i've only been to london once, would love to go back. i was an exchange student in france, where i learned to love to smoke, and went for a weekend to london.

i would like to go back to college and stop myself from picking up a pack of cigarettes. it's been 4 days, 3 hours and 38 minutes and it's still very very hard.

i'm going to go buy myself a new shirt.

I am on day 36 now and I never thought I would get this far after smoking 30/35 cigs for 45 years. Yes, I also felt that someone took away something that was mine, it is weird isn't it, but this is just in your head, believe me!

After 3 days the carbon monoxide and nicotine in your body has practically gone, good or what! Experiences felt now, are what your head is telling you as you are not feeding your old habit. We all had to learn to smoke, we were not born smoking! It is about un learning old habits and each day not smoking is a bonus.

I went out and bought Paul McKenna's book and C/D. The C/D is great for when you are feeling edgy and Alan Carr's book and C/D is also great. I don't know if I will fall, no one can say but even 3 days is great you are healing your body. Keep up we are all rooting for you

    Method Cold Turkey

Help and support C/D's, books, St John's Wort, Good multivitamin and treating myself to a relaxing massage with the money I am saving

  • it's almost 5 days

5 days seems real, seems more than a fluke.

this weekend i will be with my family, and my three year old nephew, and uncle keith isn't going to smell like smoke.

also, i get to visit an old friend who has been nagging me for years to quit smoking and i finally get to say i did it. well at least so far i've done it.

there are still very weak-feeling moments for sure.

  • Keep up the good work Keith.:)

It does get eaiser as time goes by.

There is life after cigarettes, just takes a while to break the habit.

I am now losing track of how many days i have quit, and i can definitely say that it is a lot eaiser now.

I do though remember the first week and yes it was tough

Just try to take it one day at a time. The days really do just skip by.

Wish you all the best mate. :)
