I am so tired of failed quits. I want this to be the last. This must be my year. I turn 50 in September and I want to be smoke free at my Fabulous Fifty party.

Thanks for your kind words. I didn't plan to stop today but I finished my last cigarette and decided not to buy another pack.

Hello Ellie, all the best for your new quit. You can do this!

max you are such a bloody nice guy...

Hear hear!

Bossdean, it must be frustrating I guess to see people repeatedly lapsing, but why does it wind you up, do you think? You could just avoid those threads if they irk you! I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I think it just stands to reason that on a quitters forum, there are going to be people who get it first time, others who take several attempts and some who never manage it at all and eventually leave the forum (not prepared to assign myself to that group just yet!)

Am I making any sense? Probably not :D

But your quit is impressive, and for that, I take my hat off to you :) All the best.

You make a lot of sense, dear fellow. And I think it stands to reason that a blend of sympathy and tough love (which you exemplify beautifully) is probably a good and helpful approach for ditherers. After all, there are only so many times you can say 'oh dear, never mind, try again...'

And yet again, you have helped me. You have reminded me that I am afraid of failure and that is probably one of the reasons I struggle.

Anyway, this isn't my thread so I'll shut up now :D

Ellie

On reading many, many posts on here, it's amazing how many of our goals are similar. My goal too was to quit by 40, failed, and then again 50, failed!

However, at 52, I'm almost sure that this is 'the one' for me and I do hope this is yours, I really do. Wishing you all the very best Ellie.

Doodlebugroach, my dear you have nothing to apologize for nor should you, and lest I get on the war path again I am taking a deep breath, (counts to 10)..... just keep moving forward.... review your reasons for quitting, reaffirm them, put sticky notes all over the house and read them. There must be many in your circle that would be so pleased to see you succeed. Hang on to that and don't get discouraged by anyone's opinions. Last time I checked all through these door were smokers at one time. Look to the successes and take it one hour at a time if need be. I will be here anytime you need a shoulder. That's a promise ;)

Bossdean, I am truly sorry for your frustration but I would respectfully ask that you try not to be too judgemental of others here that are doing their level best. I also take note of the fact that it took you 3 attempts. Good thing there wasn't anyone around at that time to tell you to just go get your sh*t together and come back when you are serious.

Just saying........ :p
