Hi Guys

I have been trying to quit nearly 19 times and the longest i have reached without smoking was one month and two weeks felt better than ever. but you know there's up and downs beside life does not come with instructions manual.

I hate smoking... well we all do..... i mean most of the night in the kitchen smoking my last cigg before i go sleep i just stare at it and seeing theres 4or5 more in the cigg box i also dash it in the bin with the lighter fast forwarding till the morning i wake up i end up seeing my self buying a new cigg and a lighter. even my doctor she haven't gave up on me but am full of shamed seeing her because i made promises i know once someone said dont break the promises u cant keep..... next skip couple of chapters.... for the last 5 days i have been on patches which i have realized i have spend nearly £350 pound on patches each box cost £16.99.... i have recently started to feel tired during the day doing less task barely can i study feeling tired than ever end up going on facebook and opening spotify feeling better than ever... doing bit of research the cake was a LIE!!!! the patches causes fatigue leaving me endless yawning when i focus or concertate. i am thinking of going cold turkey do you thing i would be able to do so ? after 5 days of not smoking ? or whats the methods for this type of problem am lacking alot of things am getting my A$$ whipped on call of duty. cant even be bothered to clean my room etc im just lacking alot with this patch stuck to one my arms

Hi there. Only you know the best way for you to stop. Sometimes we are all prone to overthinking . Clearly you dont want to smoke because you are trying hard to stop, so dont smoke. Do whatever you want to help in that but whatever you do, dont smoke. If you do go on with patches, dont worry about the cost, they are definitely better than the cost of smoking, which you will pay for with your money, your health and your self respect. Good luck

Hey

I can't help with NRT, I haven't had to use any yet. That's not to say I never would, i just haven't needed any yet; this forum has been all the help I've needed so far, luckily. I was angry and miserable for about the first two weeks but after that it was up and down, until day 30 when it all just went away. As yet it's stayed like that..........that is not to say it's going to be like that for you, but it was like that for me, so it could be similar. CT has worked for me for five months, but without this forum I would got nowhere..;)

Hi there welcome to the forum. There would be no harm trying cold turkey, sounds like you have tried everything else so give it a go. This forum helps a lot of people because you can communicate wuth people who understand what you are going through. Keep posting and let us know how you go on:)

It isn't the patches that make you tired. Lots of people get so tired they can't function when they stop smoking. It doesn't matter whether they use patches or not. You are the first person I've heard of blaming the patches:)

Don't think about the price. Its cheaper than smoking, also you don't need to keep the same patch for as long as they recommend. Cut down to suit yourself. Good luck

Hi fromsoftware

I tried cold turkey a few days in to my quite and I must be honest and say it din't work for me.

I wen for 2 days before going back to my NRT.

Having said that it may work for you. Everybody has a different quit method I think like Haze said to me weeks ago, some dive straight in to the water others just dip their toes in and lower themselves in slowly.

Why not try CT and if it doesn't work you can always go back to the NRT if you need to.

Good luck

Greg

Hey there and welcome to the forum.

As others have said everyone had their own way of quitting. I have quit cold turkey and been ok, I'd prefer to dive in and stop straight away rather than slowly with NRT but that is me. Good luck with whatever you do, the main thing is just don't smoke!

I quit cold turkey, was it the best way? I don't really know but what I do know is that it worked for me!

I knew that was the way for me and if you feel the same then just go for it! As many have said before me "To be a non-smoker you just have to want to not smoke more than you want to smoke!" and we know you don't want to smoke.

Wishing you all the luck,

Paul.

I have quit using the Allen Carr book. It deals with the psychology of nicotine addiction and after reading it you really wouldn't want to use any NRT. I have been absolutely fine, felt a bit odd for the first few days but that was nicotine withdrawal and once it's gone, it's gone.

Obviously everyone is different and this method won't work for everyone but it's certainly worked for me and I have never felt more positive :)

Hi,

First of all well done on getting to 5 days!

I have never used patches, but that expense sounds massive - what time period are you working that out for? Also have you spoke to your doctor? I thought you could get them on prescription whivch sounds like it would be cheaper?

Otherwise there's always the other types of NRT - gum, inhalors etc, which when i last used them a couple of years ago were alot cheaper?

I quit cold turkey this time, but i also smoked super light cigs and had previously had a rash from the gum anyway, reading on here, alot of people seem to come off the patches early for some reason, and use gum etc instead, but you are the first I've heard say it is due to cost.

If you decide cold turkey is the right thing for you go for it, but only do it if its what you want. Don't let the cost force you into it. Just think you are investing in yourself now, but over the next 10, 20, 50... years you'll save way more than £350 by not smoking!

Good luck with your quit!
