Congratulations

Congratulations Theavengers on reaching day 10, particularly as you're studying.

Studying, coffee and cigarettes always went together for me. However, now it's just the coffee. I drink copious amounts of coffee since I've stopped smoking. Any alkaloid in a storm :)

I'll worry about my caffeine addiction ( along with my weight ) later: the most important thing for all of us is to stop smoking.

Really glad you're feeling better today :)

I'm sure you do have to work very hard, I do understand that. But I bet you could find a couple of hours in your week to do something fun and different. It would give you something to look forward to, something to improve your mood, and it would probably make you study more effectively too. Your brain can only take so much!! Nobody can be expected to work 24/7 - it's the quick route to madness. Look after your mental health as well as the physical.

Keep going. You are doing SO well to get to day 10, especially with all the stress you have going on. You should be really proud.

Guys, I can't do it anymore.Very hard exams are coming in and i just can't concentrate enough on studying since i tried to quit 10 days ago.I will just go and buy a pack.Don't know anything else to do.:( Yes, I will be so upset and f*cking depressed when i screw my record, but I have to study... I hope you will be waiting for me again on the "Day 1" thread, since you people and this forum were my main motivation to reach until here...Really sorry to dissapoint strong people like you :(

Well there's a loaded choice! Have your studies suffered that much because you can't have a fag? I was hell at work for the two two weeks of my quit then it cleared a bit, came back a little in week 4 then on 30 days just went. That was however many days ago now and so far it hasn't returned in any great way.

I can't say that that is the way it goes for everyone, I can only speak for myself, but I was the smokiest person I know, to the point that some people at work still don't believe I've stopped, they think I just don't smoke at work. Why I would do that is anyone's guess but there you have it. I gave it time and it passed.

This forum's worked so far for me, not smoking helps me to work better now, smoking would help me in no way whatsoever. It's your choice of course, no-one will cane you for it on here I would hope, there can't be that many first time, long-term quitters, most must have have had a few goes. I just think you've come so far to have a cigarette now. I don't imagine you'll feel much better if you do.

Is NRT not a solution, has to be better than a fag? I don't know anything about NRT personally, not needed it....yet.

Damn, took too long typing that last post, not that it would have made any odds I don't think :(

Anyway, can i continue on day 10 or should i go back on day 1 thread?

Avengers,

You had one cigarette, doesn't mean you have to smoke the pack. Did it really help you concentrate that much?

I know you can do it, you have been so positive, hope your exams go well. Post where you feel best, we're here to support whichever thread :-)

This is a long running thing that everyone disagrees on when it comes up; speaking for myself, if I smoked I would like to think I would start over, but that's just for me, not telling anyone else what they should do.....

It seems like you have boxed yourself into a corner: Either no smoking or studying. There is a third option which is NRT - ie NRT, no smoking and studying. Try it for the couple of weeks you need to get through your exams. If you go for the NRT option now you will at least be helping yourself continue to break the habit of smoking itself. You can review the situation once the exams are out of the way.

You had a cigarette, so, in my view, that means you start again at day 1. There are different views on this though.

Agreed on the NRT in theory, Biggrin (in theory because I personally have no practical experience of it yet so I'm reservedly recommending it on what I hear and on the basis that it has to be worth a try before having a fag)...I did try to get that in earlier but didn't type fast enough!

Don't make what day you should be on a resentful issue though TA, we've seen that on here before, it's not worth making a big deal out of; your general quit is more important!

I agree AB. Not smoking is the key, not how you count days or anything else for that matter!

starting over

It is common for a smoker to take many attempts to completely stop! The main thing is that you dont give up giving up!!

Have you tried some hard core sprinting or other excercise when the bad cravings come??

Stay with it, and never give up giving up!

Oh Avengers

I feel for you

It did sound like you were putting far too much pressure on yourself.

I beat myself up very early in my quit and came on here to let my heart out! .... and received a good slap in the face from the long term quitters! :D

I got fantastic responses from all on here that literally saved my quit, but I had to wait for them to come. When I get the urge to smoke I wait...and wait...and post....and wait...and guess what? By the time I have finished waiting there a half a dozen responses, some great advice and a warm feeling of encouragement from all my online buddies and quiters! ... and it works!

If you feel the need to smoke again, just stop for a while, we all had to go many hours without smoking in the past in exams, pubs, restaurants etc and we managed..we didn't keel over :o

For my honest opinion, if it were me, I would go back to day 1 and really really think about my smoking.

That is what I have done from the start and what I will continue to do for so long still.

Only you know in your heart what is best for you but everybody on here wants to support and help you.

I hope you are still feeling positive, you are young, you are intelligent, you CAN do this :D

Take care

Greg
