just going into day 3....

It's just arrgghh. The evenings are proving a struggle. I feel really frustrated and annoyed. I can't relax to watch tv or concentrate and am starting to worry about the prospect of my weekend... Aarrggh. Nothing seems enjoyable. :(

Hi MM,

Maybe an early night, so long as you sleep well, that is. You're probably on what is the hardest day of all, at least from what I have seen. So, tell yourself that it's not going to last for long like this... and next thing you know, the waves of frustration will subside. Go for a walk, if you can. Fresh air will help a lot, as will doing just about anything different from your usual pattern.

Hang in there buddy! Tomorrow is a new day.

Alex.

Thanks, I know I've gotta keep going, but this is the time when I would smoke the most, i think that's why I'm finding it so hard. Relaxation time has turned into stressing about fags time! You're right I felt better after fresh air! Can't wait for day 4 when do these cravings and this desperation subside?

Well, MM, it's tough to say when the cravings subside, because it differs from person to person. Definitely by tomorrow the majority of nicotine will have left your body, so there will be very little if any physical dependency. On the other hand, you still need to fight the psychological battle.

Best thing I find to do is to take things one day at a time. Just keep telling yourself that you can make it through today. Tomorrow, same thing. After a few days you'll realize that you've managed to go through several days just fine, so there's no reason why you can't go through the next day just fine too.

Foremost for me is reminding myself that I have made the choice to quit, and that there is no pressure on me. I could smoke tomorrow if I wanted to, but I have chosen not to. Try not to think long-term, especially at first. Take every day, one step at a time.

If it's any consolation, I've never heard of the cravings getting incrementally worse!

Alex.

Hey Monster, You are doing brilliantly well! I found this to be the worse time, feeling light headed, unable to concentrate, feel down but it is worth remembering this is your body’s reaction to the withdrawal of the addition & it will soon pass. Something that helped me was I kept saying to myself out loud 'why do I want a fag....... I DON'T SMOKE!' (Be careful who is around, you may look like a nutter!) It is also worth checking the quit timeline which lets you know what is happening to your body! One thing I will say is when the cravings subside & the triggers start..... "I have done ever so well, one won't hurt!" etc.... just remember how you feel now & don't let it all be in vain! Just to give you a heads up on time frame, I agree with Alex & it is different person to person & should be tackled one day at a time although I am on day 24 now & I don't even think about them anymore....... unfortunately I have a new addiction for Chocolate brownies!! :)

Hoping today is a better one for you Monster!

Keep thinking of all the positives, - there are loads. How about the money you're going to save? That is one of my big incentives £117.98 so far and that's after only 15 days!! Nearly enough for me to get the Links mini sweetie bracelet that I'm going to treat myself too. Try that, set yourself a treat as a goal, something achievable in a short time. You'll feel so chuffed & proud of yourself when you reach it.

Alex - you give fab advice!!
