Day 6 and the boredom has set in

Feel like I may be posting too much now and people are going to start getting fed up hearing from me lol.

Day 6 and I have had nothing to do today. Boredom is a killer. I also noticed that as well as a sore throat, sore chest and sore legs I have now got a pain in my back. I know that my body is trying to heal and am expecting a bit of discomfort and pain in the coming weeks. I just hope (and I do know) it will get better soon.

I find it helps to get it down in writing and the little bit of support given by people on this forum does mean a lot and gives me the boost I need to get through. Sorry if I'm boring anyone with my constant posting but I am both proud of how I am doing and also asking for that help I need to make it through.

  • Hi Mark, really well done to you! almost day 6 over you can celebrate a week! i know it does not sound much but honestly coming from my first day, a week seems a year away to me right now!

Just try to remember apart from your health as your really groggy right now and thats the las thing you want to think of, but you saved almost £70 ( iassume 20 a day ? full uk price lol ) your not smelling, your not killing yourself and fincanialy better off, this i what im trying to tell myself anyways.

My first day has been ok i got stressed at one point and noticed when i went to tesco earlier to get my wine, they never had the one i wanted, they never had the stuff i wanted for dinner i thought i was going to explode with rage, but took a deep breath and thiugh derek!! if you had a fag it would not be an issue so fxxking get a grip will you! it worked i just selected another ( and its rather nice ) and grabbed a take out curry...

im still amased at how quick it can get your temper up!!!

i felt a little desperate through today like missing something, my chest felt tight/ short of breath but was not sure if this was withdrawel or my chest is actuall bad, i think more wanting a fag :-(

anyways i WILL NOT give in, here to tomorrow.

    derek

  • Hi Mark, you're doing really well:D

Post as often as you like, even though I don't come on here as often now I still like to catch up on whats going on.

I found weekends difficult at first but you'll find you change your routine a little now you're a non smoker. Keep up the good work:)

  • Hi Mark

I've managed to get to day 6 today too

It's beginning to get easier but I'm still working on it. Boredom is a killer and, for me, it also seems to be a trigger for those old thoughts of smoking to surface so I'm trying to keep myself busy - a good book seems to help.

Never feel guilty for posting though, it does help and that's what we're here for.

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

    Linda

  • Keep posting

Hi Linda and Mark, you have both done so well to get to day 6. I know that in the early days it consumes your thoughts and you are constantly thinking about smoking. That will go away and you will just get on with things and it will be normal to not smoke. Unfortunately you have to go through this uncomfortable stage to get there (well some people do) Keep posting that is what the forum is for especially in these early days when it is a new experience. We are here to help and support you. We have all been where you are now and I can honestly say that things just get better and better.:)

  • You post away Mark, like I said the other day, I'm starting to look out for your posts now, to see how you're doing :)

  • posting to much

Hello Mark answer straight from the hip "no such thing as posting to much" remember a problem/issue shared is a problem halved. Also if your topic is a problem/issue there may well be someone who has had the same problem/issue and they can share with you how they overcame/solved the problem.

    Keep posting Mark

  • Hanging in there

Well I am at day 6 cant say I am enjoying the experience, sore throat and chest and I have managed to come down with a delightful summer cold. This might actually be helping because it does reduce the urge to make yourself cough even more.

Whilst the penthouse looks a long way off and I know from many past attempts that its never over till its over, it does look a lot more attainable than it did 6 days ago.

To finish on a high note after my self pitying whinge.

    I AM 6 DAYS SMOKE FREE !!!!!!!!!! :D

  • Whoop Whoop!! Well done Barrie! Almost into week 2 which is loads easier than hell week! I had the sore throat, tight chest & cough symthoms at around this stage too & after a read up on the internet, found it to be post nasal drip which is very common with people who are quitting. It souldnt last too long; I went and got a nasal spray that seem to help. The body is in the recovery process!

  • New to site and on day 6 smoke free

    Hi Mark & fellow posters!

I am new to the site and am so glad I found it as it had already helped me identify with other people who are going through the same thing!

    Congratulations by the way!

I am on day 6 smoke free and day 13 of Champix. The first few days seemed to be the easiest and the last 2 days have been pure hell on earth. My cravings have been so intense despite the pills, I have been feeling angry, frustrated, low all normal symptoms of withdrawal I guess but I am so SICK of cigarettes being the only thing in my head. Its driving me insane! I know I just have to keep going but sometimes I think to myself I was happier when I smoked, do I really care what happens to me? So stupid.

Keep up the good work Mark and others and Im sure somehow we will get through this!!!

  • Hey Leanne & welcome to the forum! Congrats on the most positive decision to quit! Only a day away from completeing your first week (hell week), the cravings gets much less from here in but it sounds like you are on to the horrible triggers! "One won't hurt!" or "I've done so well, I'll treat myself by having a cig!" Your body & mind are trying to trick you into giving in.... STAY STRONG! In the words of a very wise lady (Carol) take it one day at a time! Give yourself a big pat on the back!! :)
