So, after failing in every other method I have tried I finally got my Dr Surgery to give me another go on Champix - It worked before for me but a moment of stupidity set me back.
I am not officially on day 1 of my quit yet, that is tomorrow. But I have been up for 8 hours now and have not had a cigarette. i keep saying to myself that I will wait... started with bus stop, at work, tea break, lunch break. Now at second tea break of the day and am about to go for a walk. I have cigarettes in my pocket but haven't had a massive desire to have them other than at lunch time when the cravings were really bad. Last time I used Champix I had no cravings at all but last time I had cravings I gave in. This seems to be totally different.
And to those who complain about side effects, I find that taking my morning tablet with a hot drink stops me from feeling sick. The one morning I took my tablet with a cold drink I was actually sick.
Wish me luck for tomorrow (or could be today if I can keep up with the delay) and any words of encouragement or helpful tips are greatly appreciated.

all the best with this for you; I can't comment on Champix as I've no experience with it but I will say this much regarding quitting in general....I've leaned on this forum since I stopped, it's helped me to, so far, 52 days since I last smoked and I feel bloody marvellous for it I get a nudge now and then, rather than any crave as such, which is easily dealt with. People will say it does get better, I can tell you, for me it already has, so stick at it, use this forum and do whatever works for you to stay stopped...

I used Champix for a month and I found them really good. They took the desire to smoke away. I kept forgetting to take my tablet so I stopped them but you should stick with the twelve weeks and I know lots of people who have quit successfuly on Champix.Good luck with your quit.
Hello Mark whatever method you use best of luck with your quit. I used smoking cessation classes and N.R.T. over about 10 weeks and am now some 204 days nicotine free and can categorically say it does get better. I'll be perfecly frank with you if it didn't I would be back smoking a long while ago. So just keep at it
Im also back after giving in to the deadly weed. I have tried many times in the six months since I last stopped but it didnt last. Sometimes I would manage a week, other times not even an hour. This time also feels different for me, it feels more like the last time when I had a good run at stopping. I think the trick is to be in the right place when you stop, and yes, just go that little bit longer. I havent stopped forever Im just not smoking today.

Thank you all for the messages of support. I have only told my mother and my other half that I am stopping smoking so I need to say it in some form or another - Today is officially day 1. I have a couple of apps on my phone which allow me to keep track of different things and I have an appointment tomorrow with the nurse to get my carbon monoxide reading done.
I just had to actually put it out there and make the statement that it is day 1 and then I really won't feel the need to doubt myself. I'm still taking it hour by hour which is so much easier to manage than forever. I am finding the champix to be a massive help as they have made the cravings a lot easier to deal with. Even using the word craving doesn't seem right because I have only had 2 all day, the second being after my lunch.
Here's to getting through the day hour by hour. See you all on day 2, I hope
