I am new to this and I am new to quitting smoking, this is the first time I have tried in my 37 years of smoking. This is my 5th week of not smoking, I did this cold turkey, and I must admit I could never do that first week again, so if I do not succeed I won't be trying again. In saying that I am ok now, I have been out socially and did not have the urge to smoke, although I did end up going outside with the smokers cos I was was missing the gossip. I am a bit worried however, as everyone says I should be feeling a lot healthier and in all honesty I do not, I feel more tired and lethargic than I ever did. When I smoked I was full of energy, I now feel like I can not be bothered to do anything, I get more headaches and strange feelings in my head and I have all sorts of strange tastes going on, I am hoping this will pass soon, is it normal?

Linda its perfectly normal to feel this way, after any amount of time smoking your body needs time to repair itself and that takes a long time, don't be disheartened by this, you will begin to feel better but it will be gradual, as for the energy you feel you had when you smoked, just wait till your body bigins to repair itself then see how much more energy you will have.
Hi Linda, I would say it is normal. I quit 52 days ago and at first I was tired all the time. In the last week or so the tiredness only comes occasionally. As far as I can see the only improvements so far are to my bank balance. I'm sure things will improve with time I thought my sense of taste was fine before I stopped and was wondering what it would be like when it improved. So far most things taste peculiar. I hope that changes. I'm beginning to get some motivation back but not every day. I can't wait for the new healthy me to happen
Hi Linda - and well done on a CT quit - I know I couldn't be that strong!
Is it normal to not feel like a bodyform advert after 5 weeks?
I'm not sure if it is or not - all I can tell you is I haven't experienced all the benefits that others get (including, rather annoyingly, my other half who is a week ahead of me in quitting) .
My taste is the same it ever was
Increased sense of smell? Nope!Lungs clearing themselves... Nope....
Never mind though - you are still better off free from the addiction!
A big thanks to all of you for your replies, I feel better already knowing that others feel the same. I shall be checking this forum from now on to motivate myself and see how everyone else is doing, it is good to compare notes. Thanks again.
Hi well done.. Yes it's all normal I'm day 71 quit and only just starting to get back to normal.. Although yesterday I had a great day lots of energy today I'm proper tired.. I didn't get a funny taste but I did have a telly dry mouth so drink lots of water.. Fill up a big bottle and sip it through out the day.. Have a good read on here too as there's lots of info about symptoms etc.
P.s if I have a look at one of my posts., think its in month 3 I also say that I'm only just getting back as I couldn't be botherd even getting dress somedays..
