New triggers...

Hiya all, had a few triggers in the last couple of days... I put a new bathroom blind up & normally if i'm doing anything diy i'd smoke before I started & have another one when it was done (maybe one inbetween too ) it felt so strange not smoking after it... Also I was sheltering this morning from the rain & thought god if I smoked I would have had a few while I was waiting for the thunder & lightening to stop

Even though i've given up before, once for 4 months, last one for 2 months, i'm still getting triggers to smoke, the mad thing is I don't even want to smoke it's just the bloody habit & thinking about it that still lurks about grrrrrrr!!

So it's 18 days today & i'm chuffed i'm getting through this - cold turkey now too :D

Well done Denise you're doing great.

I'm still getting triggers at 13 weeks:eek: but they are getting less and less.

I think any situation you encounter as a non smoker will trigger a smoking memory but these will happen fewer and fewer times the longer you get into your quit.

Stay strong:)

i know the feeling, i'm still struggling to get anything done because i only seemed to get things done on the "I'll just do this then I'll have a fag" basis. I'm finding it very difficult to do stuff without that. I do a lot of DIY, well I used to, but now I can't cos it makes me want to smoke all the time.

Sorry to hear your struggling with triggers when your doing certain things :(

i can only say that they will get weaker they are like craves at the end of the day and the further alone in your quit you go the weaker they become

maybe changing the way you do things may help like when you feel the urge to smoke because thats what you would normally have done try sipping some water and try some relaxation technics you just need to distract the smoking part of your brain till it passes and it will

your doing so well :)

Hi Denise,

I believe that what causes it, is action and reaction. I remember that my first trigger, was lighting the kitchen fire. I always used to have a cigarette whilst l was waiting for the wood to burn through.

Then came the Spring, and it was the barbecue that did it. Light the charcoal, have a slurp, and light up.....unfortunately, the barbecue one, went on for some time.....l actually used to forget that l didn't smoke anymore, and my hand would shoot out for the non-existant packet LOL.

Every Season seemed to bring with it, it's own triggers, but you learn to just ignore them....and they don't last for very long anyway.

Carry on as you are, and before long, you will find that you go for hours without even thinking about them.

Agreed!

Same same, work is a killer at the moment and I'm sick of sweets......the triggers are getting less though, seems I have to experience them all to get rid of them! Seven days now.

When things were getting difficult i would just think how upset i would be if ihad a smoke! Then think about my gift to me, and the craving would be gone(it usualy only lastes 1or2 minutes)as time goes by the 1or2 minutes get less and less, hang in there:):):)

You couldn't believe how upset I would be if I had even one puff. That's going to keep me away from it more than anything.
