Last night I had an audition for another professional acting job (25 years of acting without pay and then two come along at once!). Auditions have always made me incredibly tense and nervous, and I've smoked like a chimney before and after (and during, if I can nip out).
Last night's audition was to be part of one of those companies that do murder mystery nights/weekends. The actors stay in character the whole time and are bombarded with questions by the punters (up to 150 of them at one event). Little scenes are acted out throughout the evening to move the action along. The audience work out whodunnit.
So the audition involved being put in groups of 6, given a brief character description, having ten minutes to work out who you are and who everyone else is (who's sleeping with whom, who is blackmailing whom etc) and then being in character and having endless questions fired at you. It was SO HARD!!! I've never been that strong at improvisation. At one point I managed to dig myself into sh*t creek by saying my stepson was involved in gay p*rn, which was literally nothing to do with the plot :rolleyes:
Anyway... I may or may not get it, whatever, I don't really mind. The point is, it is not until about five minutes ago that I realised something....
At NO POINT during last night's shenanigans did I even think about smoking!!!!
I cannot *begin* to tell you how weird that is. It is quite literally miraculous.
I think I am actually, officially, really, a non smoker.
Wow.

Wow well done to you, and best of luck with the part. I know what you mean about just not thinking about it anymore, I have the odd craving these days but most of the time I hardly ever think about it and I will have completed three months on Monday so I’ll be moving into the next thread!! Keep up the good work!
Excellent news about the lack of smokes thoughts. The times, they are a changin'....but a few more triggers to get past going through the rest of the year.
You'll be more than a match for them...so start enjoying life as a Non Smoker
It was probably down to the fact that you were so immersed into your role? Thinking constantly on your feet etc. I honestly can't wait for the day I think of myself as a non smoker.
I hope you get the part, well done again and keep up the fab work

No, see that's the thing. Didn't even think of smoking before or after the actual audition. Not once. It only crossed my mind for the first time when I was sat at work this morning, which was so gobsmackingly incredible to me that I just had to post about it.
The day will come! You're only a little bit behind me. And you're doing great
Yay Hels! That is very cool Almost a existential "holy grail" thing in that you have uncovered the only time smoking thoughts are welcome is when you realise you didnt think about smoking!! (Does that make sense?)
Revel in glory
Dont worry about the improv - my motto is "When in doubt, talk about gay p*rn"
You were here before i joined so to me you ARE a non-smoker, and always have been. Though obviously i know you did used to smoke, i cant imagine it.
