Yes, still here. Day 27 it is. Tomorrow is a big one.

Funny, I was going to start the same "call to action" thread - but tomorrow.

I discovered another "first" this week - going into the office! I am a homeworker/planeworker and normally going into the torture chamber they call my office is enough to see me purchasing 60 B&H both before and after said visit, smoked alongside 20 pints. This time it was different - apart from a quick break to go and get a sarnie, I was at a hot desk, and focussed for an entire day. Then home to chill and enjoy the sweet sweet sleep I'm getting these days.

Hope you guys are all doing ok - what kind of things are you noticing are different/weird?

Nice one.. I think one of the biggest things I've noticed is the smell of cigarettes. I don't think I ever noticed it before, but as we don't have so much of a ban as in the UK, the train and bus stations reek of smoke.

I had a sudden wave of wanting a fag this morning actually for the first time in a few days. I've done it so many times before, where I'll be having this internal row with myself (and I'm sure I'm not the only one to have done that!!), and more often than not would find myself ordering 10 marlboro lights without even knowing it!

But today I really thought that 27 days is a long time, and I'm not about to go all the way back to the start again! And so I ordered an extra pastry instead of the fags!

Off for a big run at the weekend, but I don't think it's going to be as tough as a drinking weekend. I've already got over my one trigger of plane trips (always used to be a weakness because even though it's normally work, it's always a bit like a treat somewhere in my head), and the last few times I've run, I've really started to feel the difference in my form. If I can finish this half marathon under 2 hours, I know it will be a major motivation for me.

Good on you Barney regarding the marathon stuff, that really is impressive. Are you Danish? I totally agree on the 27 days being a long time. To be it's important to remember that should the urge get the better of me - which it won't - the smoke would actually taste awful. There is no way this guy is going back to day 1 again.

Spending more time being proud of myself than missing smoking is the key.

Tonight I went on a "bender" (alcohol at the pub - one has to be careful with such expressions) for the first time in 27 days/26 nights. What a truly delightful and empowering feeling it was to know that I didn't NEED to keep going outside with my friends (I did go outside though - some semblance of normality needs to be maintained). They - my friends - cannot believe I've done it and in such a calm and non-grumpy manner, and to be honest neither can I.

In 10 minutes time I am a month without a single puff; all of a sudden I have people of various age groups asking me where they can get Champix. I tried to answer sensibly - we all know our particular quit methods vary - with the common theme of a deep-rooted desire to pack it in. Still, it's good to feel that you're helping others focus on whether they want to continue or not. My view is that after 7 million quit attempts with patches and cold turkey, I was a prime candidate for Champix, others will find different methods.

Thanks for starting this thread, I am sending you big electronic waves of support and friendship, and also looking out for SAMARTEL and FRANCOB. Where are they? Come on team "September 9th" - we need you.

Morning Guys,

Yes still going strong, I attended a family members birthday party last night and sat round a table with four smokers, I felt no temptation whatsoever, the only thing I felt was sorry for them.

I am so proud of myself and sincerely feel like I've turned a corner, my mind-set has changed dramatically. The only thing I want now is for my OH to quit as well but I realise it is not fair to put pressure on her and hopefully she will quit when ready.

Another positive note is that food tastes amazing, my sense of smell is superb. I'm not sure if you guys have also noticed a difference in your sleep ? I have been sleeping so much better, I used to have restless nights whilst I was smoking and found myself in quite light sleep but now I sleep deeply without interruption.

I am glad to hear you guys are still going strong too, it really helps to know that others are experiencing the same feelings & issues. Keep going everyone !! We can all stay quit for good !!

Oh forgot to mention - I've saved a massive £174 so far, I will be treating myself this weekend starting with a meal and a few bottles of wine this evening.

I think I mentioned on here about sleep. I actually been having some really big range of strange dreams. From being chased by zombies to carrying dead colleagues home and putting them in the fridge, it's been a bit of a weird month.

Hey Barney,

Its really strange because I used to have really vivid dreams when I was smoking and restless sleep but since quitting I sleep better and hardly dream at all - from what I can remember anyway.

I guess we are all different - your dreams do sound funny though - I have some colleagues that need your treatment, lol.

Well guys, it's 40 minutes away from being a calendar month, removing that prior uncertainty on whether we count 28 days or not.....see you in the next place - Month 2!

Good night.
