Advantages of quitting.

As i was replying to another thread, i started to list the things i have loved about quitting smoking and came up with an idea :D

At times when things are getting rough it is hard to remember the good reasons for quitting. I thought i'd share some of my positive thoughts and feelings for an added bit of motivation if anyone needs it.

So whether we have been 'free' for a day or a year, lets all contribute what we have loved re-discovering.

You might not realise on your first few hours but give it a day or three and you will start to feel wonderful and proud too. :D

[*]My house smells lovely and fresh.

[*]My car smells lovely and doesn't have tiny bits of ash on the dashboard.

[*]My clothes smell the same as they did when they came out of the washing machine.

[*]My teeth are getting whiter.

[*]My fingers and nails no longer have a yellow/ gold tinge to them.

[*]I can smell flowers, air freshners and perfume now. (Including when a smoker has covered herself in too much perfume as she can't smell it herself!!! ) :p

[*]I love having showers, washing my hair and smelling fresh and clean.

Hello Karen,

This is like my "quit list", my personal reasons for quitting and staying quit. My contributions are

- my children's hair and clothing do not smell like smoke

- my children are no longer sucking back my second hand smoke

- I am proud of myself for my accomplishment thus far

- I am not spending money which could go towards family activities on smoking

- I am no longer in a rush to finish an activity so that I can squeeze in a smoke

- when going into childrens school, I no longer have to pop 3 pieces of gum to pretend that i don't smoke!

- I no longer have to worry that I may have dropped a heater or hot ash on the sofa, in the back seat of truck.... and a fire may start much later (happened to a friend of mine)

- and the list goes on pretty much into infinity.

I must say, something I really miss about smoking (other than the obvious) is ashtrays thru out house. They were handy to put fluff, and unknown gross things in. Not same w/ clean ashtray...you see gross things

That comment made me laugh. :D

But remember the amount of times that said ashtray fell over and you had to pick up/ hoover up fag butts lol.

I still have my dirty ashtray kept in the kitchen. It's suppose to be there for when i'm getting weak and i have a big smell but it's loosing its smell lol.

It's really quite amazing how many things one can think of to motivate oneself, not only before quitting but also things we only start to appreciate later on.

Just recently (after six months quit) I am starting to get my tastebuds back and I'm experimenting with cooking more frequently. Previously I ate almost nothing but ready-made meals, but now I'm learning about how to flavour foods and really enjoying the results!

I thought of a really good one last night but forgotten it now lol.

[*]Having the same £35.24 in my purse as i had last wednesday night. Haven't spent a single penny for 5 whole days!

[*]Last night, i laid in bed with my hubby watching a DVD and woke up to a blank screen at 3am. I would never have been too far away from my ciggies a couple of months ago let along go to bed without going out for a smoke first.

I'll have to think of the other one i had.

I'm going to keep this post going as this helps me, let along anyone else lol.

I needed to read through it yesterday during a wobble. It worked!!!

I took a my children and their friends to the mall on Sat; we were to meet inside close to an exit; I got there 1/2 hr early and sat on a bench reading paper, enjoying coffee. I saw 2 mum's WELL before the exit, lighter and smoke in hand, ready to lite up as soon as they got thru door. YAY! I don't do that anymore!!!!!!

Cheers and good day to all
