Not feeling great yet...

I'm halfway through week four and I keep waiting for that big moment when I'm supposed to feel great, but I feel quite terrible. I'm extremely bloated and gassy, I'm not sleeping well so I feel tired, and it seems it gets harder each day. I'm using the electronic cigarette to quit but at first used it rarely, now I'm on it ten times a day. I do work at a smoking bar, and I'm pretty proud that I went down from almost two packs a day to the e-cig by itself, but I just don't feel the amazing benefits everyone days you'll feel after three weeks. Is it because I'm using the e-cig, although that shouldn't be the case...

Also, does anyone know what to do about the stomach problems and when they finally go away?

Aw Kels,

Sorry you are feeling so down. I was having a down day yesterday so I know how you feel.

You have do so so so well! I cannot imagine how hard it must be working in a bar with smokers around youm maybe that is what is making you cranky. Here in the UK it is illegal to smoke indoors, in workplaces, bars etc so I would say for that reason it might be slightly easier for us as we dont have people puffing in our faces.

Being week 4 means you have broken the physical addiction, just the mental ones to overcome. Be strong and keep reminding yourself why you are quitting, you dont want to be like all those dirty smokers in the bar not enjoying the social aspect of being in a bar because they only want to smoke.

Life is so much better when you don'e smoke.

I was having toruble sleeping for a while and what I did was spray some Lavender oil on my pillow, it really helped and also took some kalms.

Noe sure about the stomch upset though, have you changed your diet since quitting.

Keep the chin up and remember, you are over the hardest part, it will only get easier!!

I think smoking stimulates your digestion so it could take a while for it to get back to normal.

I'd have a look at your diet and make sure you're eating well overall and eventually this should sort itself out.

I know the e-cig isn't a proven NRT but I'm sure it isn't as bad as cigarettes. Not sure I could work in a smoking bar though.

Would you think of looking for a job somewhere else if the temptation/stress got too much? Not sure how feasible that is.

Chin up though and ride it out - you're doing great. There will always be tough parts as your body is getting used to this huge adjustment.

Coralie.

Bless you, I know that feeling :(

The improvements for me didn't happen overnight. I did not have this big 'oh my, I feel transformed' revelation. And when I was still desperately wanting to smoke after a month I felt somehow cheated.

But the road gets easier, and the changes do happen, even if they happen gradually (see my post 'thoughts for the day' which I just wrote). And even if you can't feel radical changes, things are happening inside your lungs and your arteries which may very well save your life.

So don't be disheartened. Keep going, this is the best and most important change you'll ever make.

Hi

This is my first time writing on the site. I've been reading everyones posts but not posted anything myself (don't know why)

I'm on day 30 of my quit (Cold Turkey) and i'm having terrible problems with my stomach. I feel bloated all the time. Even when I haven't eaten. I feel so uncomfortable. I went to the doctors this week and he gave me some tablets for reflux and they seems to have helped a bit. THe Doctor said it takes quite a while for your body to repair itself from smoking. I suffered with sleep problems but they have sorted themself out now. I'm just hoping after a few more weeks it will start to all get better!!!! I can only hope.

Hi Louiza and welcome to the forum, it helps a lot to read but it is also great to have a rant too (my speciality) lol

I think you are right, years of abusing your body through nicotine takes a wee while to sort out so I would expect physical symptoms. Glad your sleep has improved, the sleep thing really got to me for a while too.

Hopefully your stomch gets better and you are only on the tablets as a temp measure.

Well done on day 30, that is excellent, you should be so proud!

Jill, Coralie, everyone thank you so much! It is really hard working in a smoking bar and I am looking for a job in my field, but it's quite hard right now. This is just more motivation for me to get out. I'm feeling better today, but maybe that's because I'm off.

This is my first time posting as well, so thank you all for making me feel so welcome. This is a great site!

About the stomach problems, someone told me to use water pills so I'm going to try that, but as soon as I can get in I'm going to go to the doctor. It's a miserable feeling, but I suppose not so miserable as waking up hacking a lung.

Congrats to everyone! We are happy (or getting there) non-smokers, and should be very proud.
