Hi,

The OctoQuits, a group who got together last year for mutual support were great. The additional support and laughs really did make a difference.

All the best with finding other quitters from October 2010 :)

I presume your looking for quitters from October as a month and not just the 13th?

Blackrose08, I did the same thing last year. I'm going on 72 hours at 6:30pm Central time being smoke free COLD TURKEY. Haven't ever done this. Hasn't been to bad, just trying to keep the thoughts outta my head, like well just smoke and then put the patch on you can't do it cold turkey, but I keep winning!

I would like to join in on support for October quitters, I hope this is the final time for me and it would be so cool if I did it CT! I would even shock myself!

Mic.

Thank you one and all.

I think any dates in oct would be great lets stick together and we can beat this.

On my 8 day and went out for my usuall dog walk ,could see the downs in thee distance and the frost sparkling in the hedge rows so beautiful.

Any way I had a bit of a wheeze this morning and could smell the petrol from the cars, which I have been able to for ages.

Keep reading the literature on what nicotine is and does to you so that you can understand whats happening to you.

Lets keep in touch and good luck.

We need a name for our October 2010 group. I was thinking of something like 'High Octane' or something. Anyone got any better suggestions?

October Quit team.

Last Friday at 11.oopm I was in bed when I suddenly got a really bad pain in my chest and also my jaw, I got up and came down stairs and took two gaviscon tablets thinking it was heart burn but the pain actually got worse so I took two pain killers which had no effect. My wife became worried and phoned the hospital and explained what was happening and within 20 minutes an Ambulance arrived, the paramedics checked my heart and said they thought I might have had a heart attack and took me straight to hospital, it was just as well because it turned out that I had had a mild attack. On Wednesday I had an annsgiogram, (can,t spell it) where they put a dye in your hearts arteries to see which one's blocked, it turned out one was blocked by 90% the other 3 weren't too bad. The surgeon inserted a stent in the artery which was blown up by a balloon and then the balloon was removed leaving the stent which is made of some kind of metal and lasts a life time and it really extends the arterty allowing a good flow of blood.

I came home today knowing I had had a warning to stop smoking, the surgeon told me it was without a doubt the cigerettes and pipe tobacco which had caused the furring up of the arteries and if I did not stop I would have another attack, I actually stopped last Saturday with the help of patches but I must admit even with them on I'm getting terrible urges which have me climbing the bloody wall but it's not all the time, my wife who packed in nearly two years ago said it does get easier as the weeks go on.

I know this is a long drawn out message but I thought it might be an incentive to other smokers who are trying to give up. I smoked 10 cigs a day plus 50 grams of pipe tobacco a week for 50 years. GOD, GIVE ME STRENGTH

Dicker.

Wow!! What a fright that must have been Dicker .

Good on you for stopping smoking. There are times when it's tough, but it *does* get easier with time. The folk on this forum are very supportive and it's well worth reading through old threads too. Read and post often and you'll succeed!!

Good luck! :)

Wow Dicker, how frightening that must have been. Well done for deciding to stop, I know a couple of people who have had stents put in due to heart attacks, and that still hasn't stopped them smoking. You're right, it IS a warning, your heart has warned you that it's had enough abuse from ciggies. Stay strong Dicker, it does get easier, my partner quit a few years ago and now he doesn't even think about smoking. You can do this and we'll all be here to help and support you :)

October Quit team.

Thanks Captain Crunch and KarenM for your helpful replies, it's now day 7 and I went for a half mile walk which included a steepish bank where I always felt a bit out of breath but amazingly today I didn't and thats only one week after stopping, I'm already beginning to feel more healthy, i.e I don't feel half dead when I wake in the morning like I always used to even after a good nights sleep, I do appear to have more energy even though I had a mild heart attack last Friday. I now know just what bloody cigerettes were doing to my body, they really do poison the body and all the time the body is fighting like hell to repair what them evil cigerettes are doing to it, we must all be crazy.

Dicker.:)

That's amazing that you are feeling so well already Dicker, especially considering a week ago that you had a heart attack!

They really are poisoness little sticks aren't they, how are you coping with the cravings? you are using patches aren't you? have you tried the gum or lozengers too?

Hi,

I quit on the 14th, although I suppose it should be the 13th cos my last smoke was 10pm on 13th??.

I am doing it CT this time and changing the way I think about smoking.

Dicker, well done for listening to your bodies warning and taking it seriously so many people dont an carry on smoking. Just do the same as the rest of us and take it one day at a time.

October Quit team.

Thanks everyone for your replies, KarenM, with regards to the cravings, last night (Friday) was really torturous, I have never felt like that in all my life, I wanted to scream, I kept getting up and wandering around the house and the temptation to go and buy some cigs was terrible, I felt empty and that something was missing from my life.

My wife switched the TV off and we had a good talk, she packed in two years ago so she knows what it's like.

Today (Saturday) isn't that intense but it's bad enough, the first thing I think of when I wake up is a cigerette and then suddenly I realise I can't have one and depression sets in.

I'm on full strength patches and inhalator which is never out of my gob. I know we are all different but is there an average time for when the intensity of the cravings start to subside? Thank god for this site and all you good people,. Dicker.

I was like that on Tuesday, i wanted to scream and rip my head off. I also have had the feelings of depression. I sometimes forget that I've stopped and think "ooooh i'll go have a ciggie" and then when i realise that i can't i feel so sad, i miss it.

I guess as more time goes by it will definitely get easier Dicker, Keeping busy helps me, so does coming on here. I get the emtpy feeling too. Bt I know that i can't have anymore cigs, if i have one, it'll lead to ten and i'll be so dissapointed in myself.

Keep at it Dicker, it will get easier. It has too.

Oh I see you are in durham, i'm just down the road from you
