Hi everybody.. i quit around 3 months ago i think.lol anyway early on in my quit i switched to 4mg nicotine gum.A few weeks ago i went down to 2mg with a few wobbly days but lots better now.Trouble is im no where near ready to come of the stuff and im frightened that im addicted to the gum! I use the fruit flavour one and its delicious.Ive tried swapping to regular gum and i get as far as late evening day 3 and then i think i will go crazy umless i have some!!!Although i love the stuff since having it i have had a very red face and rash.Pharmasist at my local cemist said it is a common side effect.
Can anyone give me advice how the cut down and stopped using it?im on 4-5 peices a day.

Hi Mum of 4 , firstly brilliantly well done on your quit that is absolutely fantasic!!
As far as the gum goes, nicotine is the most addictive substance on earth ( I had to google this to check it ) so sugest you read all over this site, particularly the websites in peoples signatures. there would appear to be 2 ways to progress either cold turkey or cut the gum into pieces. I started on patches and came off them as soon as I could having read about how adiction works on here. I sugest you read non stop and that will show you how to do it ! stay strong whatever xxx

I've used both the 4 and 2, never as successful at not smoking cigarettes as you on chewing gum though.
Was that 3 days of no gum and your climbing the walls? That sounds to me like your at the final stage of the nicotine leaving your system and it's making a last ditch attempt to drag you back in. Now that you know it does this you can plan to overcome this. If boredom in the evenings is a big factor, find other stuff to do, until the nicotine has left your system.
You right you do have to cut the gum out, as your still getting nicotine in some format, but you've already done the hard part and got rid of the fags. Stay strong, the withdrawal doesn't last forever despite what it feels like at the time.
thanks for the replys. i gues i will have to get in the same frame of mind as i did when i quit the fags.i will wait till after xmas when things have calmed down and do it!
First let me say very well done on your quit so far. Your doing great good for you. Nicotine takes 72 hours to leave the body so if you can just get passed that time your home free. Thats way the end of day three your pulling your hair out if you could just get to day four it will be all over and you will feel on top form. Good luck with it let us know how you get on.xxxxx
