.....it's going to be a good day. Another round of having to scream at the kids until they burst into tears because you shout at them, and then they carry on doing the one thing you have spent the last half hour screaming at them not to do. Arse.

Only thing i can suggest you try is the 'get them busy on something else' idea. You could scream at any kid for doing something wrong, but they just end up rebelling against that.. even at a very young age. The reason why they'll continue to do what you've shouted not to do is because you have told them. They got a response, and thats attention.. most kids just want attention.
Find them something else instead of heavily focus on the wrong thing.. it takes a little while longer but the result will be that they will forget what they were up to earlier that was wrong.
Your reaction to the wrong doing is everything. You need calm at the moment while your quitting, so use different tactics to get what you want.

Is that legal though?
It was a long evening really; every little thing turns into a full on tantrum
I think that means today has to be an improvement though.
Have you got an understairs cupboard? Instead of shutting the kids in there, shut yourself in there with a bottle of gin...works wonders for me!
I know what you mean, this has been happening in my house as well. Its only really been the last couple of days that I have been made to sit up and think about what I am doing.
Firstly, its not their fault I have quit smoking BUT they could help themselves more by not giving me an excuse to shout, like picking their shoes up from the middle of the floor.
Secondly, my problem is getting home from work I am already stressed and the slightest thing is making me loose my temper which is having a knock on effect on everyone for the whole night. So now I am going to lock myself away for half an hour and chill in MY room before I go downstairs to the brood.
I am going to try and not shout as much at the kids, as any attention whether good or bad is exactly what they want and I will not give them excuse to say that I am a moody cow even though I am.
What I am trying to say is your not alone, we are all in the same boat and we do loose our temper. Make some time for yourself if you feel overly stressed or narky go for a walk or go to the shop and buy some chocolate or put some music on over the noise of the kids - really really loud and tunes which have lyrics that you can sing along to - it will drive them nuts. HAve a dance around, in fact have a dance around in front of the living room window and try and get them to dance with you - the kids will be so embarrassed by it all that they will go sulk some where quietly giving you peace and quiet.
Good luck and above all else just keep smiling

I just hide in the spare room which is kinda my guitar/music room as well.
It's long and complicated but 2 of them are my stepkids and have been raised slightly different to the way I raised mine ( she's lived with me since she was 1 ). Most of the time they're great, but it can be difficult at times too.
Anyway today is better so far.
