Made it 6 hours into my first day w/o much of a problem when an ex-colleague arrived fresh from the hospital after yet another bike crash and handed me his mess of a computer 'to have a look at it'. Mercifully his wife took their daughter to some shopping centre, but the real problem is that this bloke smokes and of course didn't know about my intention to stop.
I should add that I rarely to never get visted by anyone, but it had to happen today.
So here I am again at Day 0. I've learnt to not set me too short goals so tommorrow will be my last day of smoking. Whatever it takes.
As a bonus i got my bike back from a 'medical check up' and can't even ride it because of the valium.

Imagine yourself as a drunk. What happens to you mind and thought process under the influence of alcohol? That's right... it changes. The same thing happens with smoking - nicotine receptors in the brain have replaced acetylcholine receptors and now alters your thinking.
What is acetylcholine? It is a natural neurotransmitter produced by the brain that has almost an identical chemical breakdown that's similar to nicotine. The brain is fooled by this and thinks deadly nicotine is acetylcholine - this fact alone is why millions of people are dying and getting addicted to nicotine. A simple misunderstanding with your brain and the chemicals that are going into it. Your brain is not that smart without conscious thought. It can get tricked very easily. I could go on for days with this.... but lets jst say people smoke because they were duped into it.... and most of them were abused by the tobacco industry at a very early age. They even target children through advertising.
Nicotine is deadly and can kill you. The tobacco companies put a very small amount in each cigarette so it don't kill you and keeps you buying their product. If you inhaled a high dosage of nicotine - you would die instantly.
Good luck!

Something to remember although i would find it very difficult to imagine to be a drunk cos i don't drink. But you made your point perfectly clear and I mean to spend the rest of today and tomorrow on ****ysing what I did wrong.
My intention was to get rid of them as soon as possible cos i wanted to continue stopping, what I shouldn't have done is take the fag he offered me (of course cos he didn't know) and smoke it. Almost coughed myself to death, really. Thanks to valium I'd slept for about 12 hours plus the 6 I was awake is 18 w/o a smoke. Could have been there, could have done it (even drank a coffee w/o smoking, that would have been for me the most dangerous thing possible, but i was prepared for it and it went well). i wasn't prepared for that visit though and that's somehting i have to learn, the unexpected temptations.
Tip- you really have to conquer triggers. You will never make it if you expect life to be perfect when you quit smoking. It was easy to run to cigarettes every time you had a problem before. Now they're gone. You have to learn to deal with problems on your own. Smoking is a form of false accomplishment. Your problems will still be there after you're done smoking... all you did by smoking was level out the nicotine level because you were withdrawing off of a low level. That had nothing to do with the actual initial trigger or problem.~Billy
That will be another sticky on the desktop, pretty clustered already.
Nice Bike you got there pity you can't ride it at the moment
Oh dear what a pity your freind arrived so soon after you stopped but Billy is right you really have got to learn about the triggers so now you go on from there OK it is not the planet that's cruel it's this addiction we all have that's cruel
No you shouldn't have taken that fag and smoked but you'll have learn't from that so now you carry on you do not go and buy more fags you went roughly 18 hrs without one so you know you can live without a fag so just
Pick yourself up Dust yourself down and carry on and remember
No you shouldn't have taken a cig but it's a good thing that your thinking about it. Honestly, the best advise I've been given so far is to read. You have to get your head round this 'cos it's not just the habbit to be dealt with, it's a dependancy that starts and stops in our heads.
Well done for keeping going, you can do it, we all can.
wen its ther in front of u its hard to say no- sounds like u learned that u made th wrong move- i'v done it countless times!!
learn ur lesson and learn from this-sometimes u think fate's just waiten round the corner to make life harder-and sometimes it is-try again dude-decide u'v had enough of "trying" to go off the cigs and just do it-that's wat i'v decided-put up a sign just inside ur front door-"i'm smoke free" make it harder for u to smoke-
I see you are trying but giving yourself a hard time. These guys are right read, read and read, it helps. I know you have some material but the ones on here are very good too.
You could also put a NO SMOKING sign on the outside of your door then when someone comes they will not offer you a smoke nor take one out in your home

Yes, I'm giving myself a hard time because I really want quit. After that many failed attempts i'm at the point of WTF am I doing wrong? Never fail in my job but keep failing here.

Jackie
They'd promptly charge my for that:rolleyes:
As I've said before, the chances of somebody visiting me are next to zero, that this bloke came was special, bought his bike because he knew that I'd bought a VFR 1000 V4 at the last motorshow here (Nov. 08), should be here in about a month (if I stop smoking got to find another way to kill myself;)). Out of the hopital he was sitting at home with nothing to do but a laptop and a computer which both weren't running. He's looking forward to at least another 2 months at home. Hence the idea bioxx can solve this problem. Now it will be very quiet again here until his next crash. He shouldn't ride a bike, he's got a 1 year old daughter. It's different for me, I'm the last one left, my kids are adults and have a wonderful life without me.
