day 2 and struggling

Hi everyone, im on my 2nd day today, yesterday went better than i thought i had a few wobbles but went to bed after 24 smoke free hours and felt positive and proud. Today however i woke up and everything went wrong, i had donated yesterday to myself dealing with each craving and therefore my responsibities as a mum of four slipped, so this morning kids up late, clothes not ready, everyone stressed and then i had a good cry and when i needed that extra bit of support i couldnt just run off to the pc to this forum and my family reacted by telling me its cos im stopping smoking and how come i was ok yesterday, this was just not what i wanted to hear, and yes weve had stressfull mornings in here before but i would normally run for a fix from demon nic and then deal with the crisis, but today i couldnt turn to him because ive stopped, but now writing this feels good, although im not sure i can keep this up for the moment i have and ive not smoked!!!!! please if anyone had advise of what i can do at that crucial moment that will fit in with four children and household chores i would rearly like to hear.. please!

  • Just don't smoke. Smoking is an action, choose not to do it. Yes the 1st week will be the worst as your body cries out for the drug it is addicted to, but if you give in and feed it now then you will only have to do it again at some other point.

Explain to your family that some days will be better than others, but you need some tolerance and understanding that the moment. Whether they give it to you is another matter, but if you can see your way through a few days of endurance it will be well worth it and if they complain then remind them what you are doing and why.

Carry on as you would do, some people try to embrace the cravings as a demonstration of the body healing while others find distraction the key. Screaming and shouting can help, as can hitting a pillow or other soft object, but the key is to just manage your day as usual but without the fags.

It really is just a few days until the worst is finished with forever, you can manage a few days of feeling crappy and crabby can't you? Then it gets so much easier, I promise.

    Hang in there

  • thanks nic, i just reread my posts and it sounds like i am rearly negative and although i am at times i am positive too sometimes, but thanks for your advise and would rearly like some of that mental realignment you have!!

It didn't sound negative just realistic. Quitting can be a bit of a roller coaster ride for the 1st week or 2.

The mental realignment comes with time and re-educating yourself, see the links in my sig for more info.

Pick a focus whether it be control, or health or so on and when it gets tough tell yourself (yes, out loud) - I don't need to smoke I don't want to .....

    - be a slave to nicotine

    - have my children watch me die a painful death

    - give the government any more of my hard earned cash

    or whatever works for you.

People may look oddly at you but its amazing how much strength you can gain from doing so.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Tracy :)

I can't add to what Nic has said but like Nic I can promise you that it won't last long Just Hang in there

In my very early days when I felt bad or had a crave I would say out loud No pain No Gainit worked for me but I did get a few odd looks

  • Hi Tracey

I've just read about your 'wobbles' this morning. I know what you're going through, but don't let it get the better of you. I was told to take 2 or 3 deep slow breaths in and out each time I feel a craving or a bit stressy. It seems to be working for me, so it may be worth a try. Keep positive and don't let the ciggies bring you down.

    TT xx

  • Hi, Tracy. First, welcome. Second, your doing great! If you need some tips on handeling the stress, check out the TIP section of the forum. Also, read the different links. Cigs do not help stress. When I first read that I laughed. It always seemed to me when I was smoking that cigs really helped me and kept me from totally going nuts with the kids and the job! But when you read what happens in the body with stress and then cigs, it all makes sense. Again education is the key to quitting and to staying quit, so read the links and this forum. It really helped me and many others.

  • Ive found myself saying (when nic demon is at it) 'oh just shut it'! out loud, mind you I do get funny looks or if OH is here and looks at me I just say 'not you lol'

    It will get better X

  • Hi Tracey

well i think you coped really well this morning -you had to put up with all that stress, but you chose not to smoke-that says to me you have the willpower to do this-so what if you had a cry, or you were moody-doesnt matter!! what does matter is that you chose not to smoke today-really chuffed for you-big cyber hug xxx

  • Tracey, I have been looking for a sight for you off and on all day that may help you understand stress and smoking. If you'd like to read it, here is the link: under Motivation - Why We Died Young - Nicodemon's Lies? - Our Lie/The Truth - # 4. The whole page is very interesting, but #4 deals with the body, nicotine, and stress.

  • Thank you all for your support i have acted on it and read what jody recomended and it helped! I am at the end of day 2 and I feel much better than this morning, thank you all again and speak to you all on day 3!

I am so proud of myself even though i have got this far before (managed 5 weeks a while ago) i feel differant this time - more determined!

  • Well done for getting through the day Tracy. I've had a headache that won't budge most of today. It helped in a way, because smoking was just not really on my mind as a result.

So, we've got this far... bring on Day 3!

  • its a great help knowing that others are going through the same process, are you using anything to help.

  • Tracey day 2

Hi hun, I'm only on day 10 my love and already it is brilliant to feel so free. Take it one step at a time and perhaps find what works for you when you carve/fancy a smoke. I found that burning essential oils round my home are a brilliant way to ease my cravings as the smell is wonderful, but this may not work for others. Marg, Nic and linda to name but a few have helped me immensly and knowing you're not alone in this gives us strength too.

Don't look too far ahead and give yourself credit where it's due. You can do this and you want to do it and you are gaining so much from it, all you are losing is toxic fumes, hand to mouth movement and lots of money amongst other horrible things..

You are going to make it through day by day and i never thought i would go an hour and not be 'seeing' white sticks but now i hardly give them a thought. I'm not saying everyday will be so good for me but 7 out of 10 have been really positive and good so iv decided i can cope with the odd bad times as they pass so quick..

  • Hi Tracy :D

So glad you are feeling better now at the end of day 2 and so you should feel proud of yourself well done

  • Don't Smoke

    Dear All,

Well, I would say that it only takes your will power to get yourself out of this bad habit. People who are strong in making decisions, quits easily but the people who hesitates in making some decision, just find it difficult a bit. Anyhow, everybody can quit very easily. We just need to focus. So please keep focus on your goal and you will find it easy.
