William Wallace: Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!
Consider Nicotine the same way.... and if you have ever seen someone die from lung cancer... then rest assured that they would trade all their days to never have smoked!
COGITO ERGO SUM
William Wallace: Aye, resist nicotine and you may suffer. Run, and you'll continue to smoke... at least a while. And dying in your oxygen tent beds, a few years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell nicotine that it may want to take our lives, but it will never be allowed to take our lungs breath.

I once met an oldish chap who came up to me outside our local pub and said if he could only turn the clock back he would never have picked up a cigarette. He was dying of cancer and he begged me to stop smoking while I had a chance. Of course I didn't then - I was only about 18 but I never forgot his words. I'm sure there are many dying people out there who think like he did - if only... I hope I am never one of them - another reason never to have another puff.
Thanks Steve for that post, that brought tears to my eyes just thinking of past life experiences and has just made me more determined to never put another ciggy in my mouth.
That is a great post to keep the motivationa and determination going.
Thank you to Jerry, that story is so sad, dont it make you more determined to never go there. Breaks my heart, but at 18 we really dont think it will ever happen to us do we....its only as we get a bit older and wiser and see it for ourselves that we realise it can and often does
I knew a guy in my condo building whose wife had died a couple of years back and he decided that he was not going to give a rats arse about life anymore.... He would tan himself every summer (he lived another 3 until he was mid 70's) into the darkest tan I have ever seen on a white guy. I mean he was northern European, but could have passed as Brazilian easily. He also smoked himself to death - literally - and went from 1.5 packages to about 3. Now I knew his wife (good woman) and he was truly devastated, since they had been in love since they were teenagers. I appreciate that he did not want to live anymore, but in the end the manner in which he choose to go was quite gruesome. I recall the picture, in my minds eye, of him sitting slumped over the chair in his den, wheezing and coughing... and then taking interchangeable HITS from the oxygen mask and then the cigarette (yes, I know it is dangerous...lol).... It was a slow and horrible death... YET... it did not stop me from starting.... IRONIC... Human nature is odd!
