Great...Quit smoking and your blood pressure rises !!

Before I stopped smoking my average blood pressure readings over 6 months were 140/78

I quit nine days ago and my daily readings are 178/98

Ergo sum....quit smoking and risk a heart attack.

Once again I rang the NHS Smoking hotline and was politely informed by the young lady in a call centre ( India probably) that they cant really answer specific questions as they have no experience. Whilst she was on the phone I asked her if she could help me change the washer on my bathroom tap....maybe that was her field of expertise ?

I am seriously thinking of going back to 40 Marlboro a day just out of interest to see if it brings my blood pressure down !!

To be candid I am getting a little pissed of with the lack of REAL information regarding smoking.

The only thing I know for certain is that Gordon Brown takes at least 70% in tax on a packet of fags....my true motivation for quitting.

  • Hi bloke

As ever love reading your thread-you always have a funny stance on things-anyway 70% for mr brown is motivation enough-your blood pressure may have risen through the fact you are constantly getting pi**ed off with the NHS s**t line.

Your body has gone through some changes, by not smoking, and those changes are slightly higher blood pressure-as more oxygen is pumping through your system and also your metabolism drops-this is short term however and i was told by my doc nothing to be concerned over

    kepp smiling!:D

  • Whatever the cause going back to smoking wouldn't be the answer, but you know that right!

    Maybe its the stress?

There again maybe it was the wacci bacci :p

  • Here's a funny (as in strange) story for you to ponder.

Since I quit back in March my blood pressure got very low. Dizzy spells and extreme tiredness were the main symptoms. I try to get it back to normal but nothing works, I have been on iron tablets since August and even they didn't help. Now i'm not going to say that i would start smoking to see if it helped me go the other way but i'm sure it's not a coincidence.

Smoking does funny things to the human body and all I can say is 'don't do it kids!'

    :o

  • Just reading your message kind of made me stressed. I think your blood pressure, from reading your message, is down to being over passionate about things out of your control and not taking the time out to forget about these things and relax a little. Your body changes every day from nicotine withdrawal and the habit, putting that stick to your mouth and inhaling. When we lose this rock, this crutch, this thing we have mentally programmed ourselves to rely on, we look elsewhere to throw our anger, the state of the country, the scroungers, the poor NHS, the telly tubbies are cr*p and who on earth invented these educationally challenged multi-coloured freaks! I've been there and yes, I've argued about the slightest damn thing, you wanna' know why? Because I felt I'd lost my mate, my companion, my saviour. I had to vent it elsewhere. THE POSTMAN WAS 2 MINUTES LATE! MY BANK IS BASED IN INDIA! GORDON BROWN IS AN IDIOT! THIS GOVERNMENT P'S ME OFF! MY CAT JUST DECIDED TO CURL UP ON MY LAP WHEN I WANTED TO MAKE MYSELF A CUP OF TEA! THE DILEMMA OF IT ALL! My blood pressure shot through the roof for the first 2 weeks because unimportant things suddenly became my passion, let battle commence! I've now got to Week 11 and you know what, I'm a damn hippy! I've never been so chilled in my life! Okay, the odd day here and there I get a panic, a fag dances into my head, but with support you know what? It gets easier. Hope this helps. :D
