Can someone please give me some advice on what i should do. I"ve been using the patches to help me quit, the 24 hour ones. Becauseof the bad dreams i was having i stopped wearing them for bed. A couple of times i had gone to work without putting a patch on so i went all day till 9pm without one and it was pointless putting one on for a couple of hours before bed. I am thinking of quitting the patches all together and just going cold turkey now but not sure if i should,im sure i could manage without them.

If you can do it without the patches then you should. You can always put one on if you find yourself wanting.
No secret that I am a believer in doing it cold turk because it's free!

If you are confident you can do it without the patches - go ahead, but do not jeopodice your quit for the sake of needing a 'crutch' there are many forms of NRT including 16hr patches (which could stop the dreams) there is also the lozenges and the inhalator. I was too weak (or too addicted) to face my quit CT and I admire anyone that does, if you are going to take this route then you need to read all you can. I read AC when I was well into my quit and it did re-inforce my will to succeed. Whatever you decide, it you need help shout!

Stopping smoking is a state of mind. If your head's right you'll succeed. If you need a crutch to maintain your state of mind that's fine too. The only caveat to the whole process is that if that crutch is nicotine you simply prolong your addiction to it. Don't feel bad about chewing gum, sucking mints etc but do think twice about chewing nicotine gum and sucking nicotine lozenges. If your decision is that nicotine is your crutch then fair enough, go for it and worry about giving it up later.
Many find that the gum, lozenge, inhalator help whether or not they've any nicotine in them and orbit, polos and plastic fags are a lot cheaper...
If you stop using your patches don't see it as a failure if you have to stick one on again in a few days though but just remember that if you've been nicotine free for 72 hours a patch or similar is now just an expensive placebo.
