Lady, Lady, far be it from me to stop anyone fantasizing about naked workmen (sorry you didn't mention naked... that must be some subliminal part of my fantasy) but on the matter of putting on weight when you stop. I've just read Stopping's Easy by Andy Marshall and he's got a very interesting take on the matter of weight gain or weight loss when you stop smoking.
Somebody remarked the other day - that i could gain weight and put my health at risk with this quit - obviously a smoker ..
But i do beleive the average non smoker would have to gain between 75 and 100 pounds to put the additional work load of their heart as a smoker?
40 days a non smoker and I have gained about three pounds, but the patches and withdrawal made me ill for over two weeks so I didnt eat and the other weeks I kept rowing my with husband and so didnt cook dinners..
Just sat and sulked watching telly, occasionally grizzling .....
I bumped into an old neighbour in the supermarket. I was remarking on how well he looked (not so long ago he was in intensive care! :eek He said he felt great but just had to get rid of the pot belly he's acquired whilst convalescing.
"Don't mention pot bellies! " I cried. "I've put on a stone since I stopped smoking!"
At that an older lady walked past and touched me on the shoulder. "Don't you worry about that, my dear" she said. "I stopped 20 years ago and initially put on a bit of weight, but it all came back off again and more, without me even trying"
She walked away and didn't hear me ask "When? When will the weight fall off ????"
Crikey Barbara, the way I feel at the moment.. I'd have run after her and shaken her screaming "WHEN?!! WHEN??!! TELL ME, TELL ME!!!"
I'm struggling like mad with this weight gain.. I've put on a stone + in two months and that's with regular running & gym sessions too! Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Has anyone got any tips for speeding up metabolism??? I'm sure that's what it must be.. isn't it??!
