Headaches & Nightmares?

Is this common? I have had a thumping head all day, although hardly any craves, my head feels like it's about to drop off!

I woke at 6am this morning after a nasty nightmare( writhing snakes.. eek!) and although i dream a lot, i awoke trashing about as if i was having a fight- do many of you get nightmares when you quit?

Not sure if the headache's because of the quitting or because i think i'm drinking more coffee( have gone and bought some half-caff now) whenever i would normally smoke.

ideas?

I hear headaches can happen for sure..... you said you drank a lot of coffee but decaf? May be caffeine withdrawal symptoms as well..... I get bad ones from that.....

I for sure had terrible, terrible nightmares (3 total) and people on here told me it would go away and it did!! :)

I still wake up in the middle of the night (which I never did before ever) but I have started to drift off again..... so it is all normalizing....

Hang in there.... it will get better and very soon, too!!!

Hi Minnie

Headaches and nightmares seem to be common among us quitters but they will stop fairly soon some of it could be to much coffee I drink lots of it as well so when I got the headaches as I was nearly drowning in it anyway I started having fruit tea everyother cup [or water] and that helped a lot with the heads as it has no caffeine at all it is also very refreshing hot or cold

Now I don't get the heads and the dreams have settled as well this is all part of quitting as the body settles and becomes used to not having all those chemicals in it's diet for want of a better word all these things will pass I promise

Hi Minnie,

I am on my 11th day and I did have the same problems as you.

Sore heads are not as common now and nightmares have stopped. I think the patches have alot to do with the nightmares because on the 9th evening I took my patch off and I didn't put it on again and all the nightmares have stopped. I still wake a few times a night but find it easy to drift off again.

So hang in there, it gets alot easier!!!

I am on day four as of today. I haven't so much had the headaches. I am having insomnia- and when I am sleeping, having nightmares. Wonderful combination I tell ya! Yesterday I was quite emotional also- probably due to lack of sleep- oh and hormones. But, I will supercede over it all! :p

Hi SimplyHeather :)

Well done on your quit and welcome to the forum I'm afraid insomnia, headaches, nightmares and feeling emotional is about par for the course for us quitters it is just your body getting used to not having all that muck shoved into it everyday as you get further into the quit they will all disappear

and you will feel much better I promise

Good Luck

Vivid dreams are common, and the body has to get used to more oxygen flowing around which I suspect is the reason for the headache, obviously if it persists see the doc.

FWIW I found this on a website about dream αnαlαsis :D:eek:

To see a snake or be bitten by one in your dream, signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. Alternatively, the snake may be seen as phallic and thus symbolize temptation, dangerous and forbidden sexuality. If you are afraid of the snake, then it signifies your fears of sex, intimacy or commitment. The snake may also refer to a person around you who is callous, ruthless, and can't be trusted. As a positive symbol, snakes represent healing, transformation, knowledge and wisdom. It is indicative of self-renewal and positive changes.
