Today is the day, I did without my morning cigarette(s) and so far so good, however a sudden bullet of paranoia has hit me.
You see I used to smoke in my room, sometimes up to a pack or more a day in there without so much as opening a window or a door (disgusting I know). Sometimes cigars aswell. I had this friend who kept telling me that it's like i'm still smoking when I'm sleeping etc, and how those 20 actually turn into 70, 80.. now I find this hard to believe, surely each cigarette only holds what it says on the pack? All this secondhand/passive smoking business has got me paranoid.
Anyone else smoke in their room reguarly?

Smoking that much inside probably doesn't do you much good but you need to focus on the future now. Smoking, in your room or anywhere else, is in the past. An appreciation of the health risks is a good thing in my opinion as it can spur you onto stopping, but getting freaked out about it will probably just make you want to smoke more!
Could you use the money you'll be saving to give your room a lovely big spring clean so it's as fresh as you? Deep cleaning, decorate, new curtains, etc. Then you won't have to worry about the smoke that's been in there.
Yes we used to smoke in the lounge when there wes only me n hubby in. we have redecorated almost all of the rooms now to be rid of nicotine, the tv was the worst. no matter how i cleaned it it smelt of nic when you turned it on and it started to warm up, smoke must have got right inside it. Yuck !!! got rid in the end, nice new sweet smelling one for christmas. Still have bedrooms to decorate but they were smoke free anyway, xxx
Well, I still smoke in the lounge (up until today), the door is always open and windows though. The problem is the years I smoked in my room, sometimes 5/6 smokes before getting out of bed :eek: What a grotty little man I was Ahh well I've allready cut down from 40-50 a day to 15-20 over the last month and have gone cold turkey today.
Please someone else tell me you smoke in your room, ease my paranoid mind
Why do I feel the need to have a cigarette, when I'm worrying about cigarettes, it's crazy.
I'm sure the smoking more fags only applies hwn you have recently smoked in a room. The smoke hangs in the air for quite some time afterwards. Open a window just to vent it a bit, and if you havent smoked in there today you should be fine. As pointed out above though, the nicotine does get everywhere, I always noticed it more on my windows. Damp dusting/wiping with water and vinegar gets rid of the smell.
Keep at it, I am overdosing and getting high on oxygen, my body is slowly getting used to having what it has been deprived of for too long!!

No, I mean I used to smoked 20 a day in my room for a period of about 6 months (working from home) the thought of me breathing in cigarettes when I was sleeping etc is a bit of a pest. hopefully all the bad chemicals etc just dissapear after a few hours in the air but who knows.
I've always had an ash tray by my bed to be honest but it was those 6 months that had me worried.
Sorry fella, I'm just going through the "why should I quit, what if the damage is allready done" phase of quitting. I'm just being overly paranoid I suppose.

Truth is, maybe some damage has already been done, none of us knows that for certain. But, is that really a reason to carry on and deny yourself all the other advantages of stopping? Even if there is already damage you can prevent further damage and start to heal and recover, you'll have more time, more money, more freedom, more energy, you'll smell better, feel better, eat better, sleep better.
I'll stop now before I get even more evangelical about it but just remember - that part of your brain that is addicted will tell you all sorts of things to make you carry on smoking. You don't have to listen to it. This is the same part of your brain that tells you it's worthwhile to stand outside in a storm, to stink, to put cigarettes before your family and friends - is that really the part that you want to be listening to?

Sounds familiar Whiteroom, I have done that in the past where you think you may have done some serious damage already so may as well finish yourself off smoking.
At one time I had a very concerning pain just below the jaw joint below the right ear (okay how many are you feeling the side of your heads now??? And NO it was not from talking too much!!!!)
I lived with it for months ... the thing that worried me was the dull ache was worse in the morning and in the night. My Imagination got the better of me (thinking it could be the worst ... and not wanting to find out if it was the worst!!!) So I just kept on smoking... thinking if I done real damage may as well see it through to the end (VERY DUM I KNOW) !!!
As it turned out I did need to go to the Docs for a check up about something else... and mentioned this. It turned out to be some neck muscle strain aggravated by my recent mattress change. So all those months of worry for nothing..... Got a firm expensive mattress and problem solved!!!
At the end of the day the addiction is gonna make all kinds of reasons to get you keep smoking, the brain can be extremely elaborate with it's reasoning :D. Don’t beat yourself up, you need to move forward from being that smoker, as now you are a non-smoker, keep looking forward with a positive outlook.

20 cigs is 20 cigs, if you were non smoker the passive effect would come into it. As it is, you took the full whack by absorbing all chemicals first hand.

Man, you sound like me...looking for reasons to not quit. Open the window...you'll be fine. Afterall, you slept in the same room while you were also smoking the 20 cigs...at least now you're not smoking them.
I smoked in my bed room and in every other room in my house but thats past look to the future and when you save some money paint the bloody Room. WEll done on your quit stick to it Linda xxxxxxxxx
That's a very common "nic trick". Just one of many reasons you'll come up with for going back on the cigs. Try and recognise these for what they are and understand there's a better life for you after giving up.

Thank you so much! That has really given me the extra step to quit for good I think. Woke up today thinking that's it I'm gonna have one! Anyway, turned on my PC monitor and refreshed this page and suddenly the urge has passed. Day 2 is looking good. You could be a lifesaver
