So, I'm really annoyed with myself after 5 weeks of not smoking, I caved in! Here comes my excuse as I see it...I'm due to get married in 3 months and was desperate to quit before my big day, my dress fitting day was upon me and I felt and smelt lovely...till I tried on my dress. I had put on 9lbs in those weeks and I could feel it. Off home I went for a good cry and caved. I have since lost that weight again but feel very disappointed in myself and really want to try again. Does anyone have any advice, will patches help with weight gain, should I wait till the weddings over...I just see another day of smoking as a day off my life span!

Wedding Vs Smoking Help!!
I've read your post a few times and considered it before replying.
You said that after 5 weeks, and leading up to actually trying the dress on, you smelt lovely and, much more importantly, felt great.
It was only because the dress was tight that you caved in.
If you felt great prior to that, why are you worried?
Has you partner commented about the weight gain?
Did it REALLY bother you UNTIL you put the dress on?
In fact, has anyone commented on your weight gain?
People love people because of what they are like on the inside. That sounds terribly corny but it's the truth.
I posted this little story in another thread, see what you think...
Jill had been a heavy smoker since she was a teenager, but to her surprise was able to quit "cold turkey." However, her weight shot up and she felt very self-conscious. When a friend congratulated her on giving up cigarettes, she exclaimed, "But look at all these added pounds!"
The friend's reply was one Jill wil always treasure. "Oh, my dear, don't worry about that!" the friend said. "Just think of all the extra years you will have in which to lose them."

lol brilliant  me and my lardy arse think that's great
I'd wait to quit until after the wedding...just my opinion. You can have no distractions on your quit...apart from the fantastic newly wed sex you'll have
I was slimming to fit in my dress, it would've right pissed me off for putting on 9lbs. That's aside from the cost of alterations to let the dress out. Remember just my opinion. Good luck and have a fantastic day....savour it fully, the hours tick by so quickly.
Lisa x
I agree with Lisa, wait until afterwards. There's enough pressure leading up to a wedding without being whacko without tobacco. Just make sure you don't burn a hole in the dress on the day, and make sure someone has your cigarettes in a purse near and handy. Then, when you're ready and chilled come back and join us...it will be a breeze.x
Wish I had an answer hun,im feeling the same, feel like im going to pile on stones at this rate, havent gained anything but joined slimming world 5 weeks ago and have only lost 2.5 pounds haha,so disappointing, finding the non smoking so easy but im like you and thinking maybe I should just start again as no weight is going to come off me,i need a stone off for June then after that I aint bothered as much lol x
I'm really not bothered after the wedding, I could put on stones as I know with some work I can shift it. With my dress like a lady said above is altering it all the time, it's being taken in at the moment, give it a few weeks and I'll be paying for it to be gigantisized!! Think It's just that even though they control my mind I just don't enjoy smoking anymore but I'm not one of these that can cut down if there in the house anywhere. Decisions!!
Have some elastic darts put in?
Works for trousers, should work for dresses?
now there's a bloke talking....!
have you not considered just moving the wedding
ducks missiles and runs out the door

Lol, cancelling is out of the question now with 3 months to go. Just wish I'd thought of giving up when we first paid the deposit on the venue 12 months ago, suppose I didn't really think of weight gain till I read posts on here lol.
It's a tough one.
It's the biggest day of your life so you don't want to be worrying about your dress not fitting.
However, you don't want to smoke and would probably rather not smell of 40 cigarettes while kissing everyone.
If this is all about weight and the quit itself was fine why not stop again nearer the time. It will only be an expense if you have a fitting every 5 minutes.
If you think withdrawal will also ruin the day then the only answer is to wait.
You won't get another chance for this day so do what makes you happy. It's not about smoking for the next 3 months, it's about being happy.
I've decided to set my quit date for a week before the wedding. I found that the patches really helped and being around smokers didn't seem to bother me to much. I'm thinking I'll be running around on the week leading up to it so won't notice the withdrawal as much...I could be wrong but I won't be smoking on my wedding day!!! I will not!! Thanks for your advice.
now there's a bloke talking....!
Guilty as charged!
I go to lots of weddings and have long since got immune to them.
