2015 is the year I become Smoke Free but I need your help please?

I've been on and off this forum numerous times with a numerous amount of failed attempts and I'm sick and tired of this battle. Believe it or not I really do want to quit but many of my attempts have been short lived. This time needs to be different!

I'm done with being the serial quitter so I need to do the preparation to get this one to be the one. A quote which has become a great piece of motivation for me lately is "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got". I'm tired of me, my depression and my failed attempts of trying to change for the better. 2015 is going to be my year. I've already decided to take a break from alcohol and havent had any since the end of november in the hope to help my depression and I'm feeling much better. My next thing I want to change is my smoking, I don't want to be a smoker, i'm tired of the coughing and a little white stick dictating my every move. I'm better than this.

The plan is to begin freedom on new years day, and my OH is going to join me therefore its time to get prepared and make this the one. I've downloaded an audio book and going to reread some stop smoking books. If anyone can offer any advice or guidance to help me on my journey , it would be really appreciated.

I know you've all been great and helping me through previous quits and believe me, it hasnt been in vain, I truely believe its part of my journey but now its time to stop hoping one day i'll just wake up and not want to some. You put in what you get out so time for me to really put the effort in this time

!

Thanks if your still reading at this point,

Mrs Mash x

Thanks Karen

Thanks Tea, I'll make sure I'm armed with plenty of distractions including this site being number 1! Love your tips for encouraging my hubby and I know he will too!

Thanks Max, yeah its one I have so will begin rereading that one first.

Hello Mrs Mash so fantastic to have you with us,so pleased your back this is the one lets make it count together. I have learnt the longer the quit the weaker the crave, so post and read often, just mabe focus on your self for a awhile, this after all is a addiction which is going to take a little determination, but you can do it,

So let's make this the quit that counts, yes it can be difficult at first, but that's why we are all here to support each other.

Best of luck, and so very well done on your decision to quit, that's half the battle won!

Main thing is you keep coming back and trying and eventually something should give.

Although most will have it anyway if anyone is struggling to get hold of a certain book by a certain person *cough cough* I have a link for the 3rd edition which I'll gladly forward for it to be read online in pdf and downloaded in the same format and keep it for good, free of course, if you don't know what I'm on about or won't read then please don't pm.

Thank you Tractorgirl

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I remember you mrsmash - great to see that you're trying again. This time will be the one!

The best advice I can give is really just focus on one day at a time. Even the very worst days end, and the next morning you find yourself feeling stronger, prouder, and ready to make the choice all over again that you're not going to smoke today. Today is all you need to concern yourself with.

Remember that you're retraining your brain. Each time you feel the urge to smoke it's because your subconscious has had a trigger. Beat that trigger a couple of times and your subconscious learns that it's no longer a prompt to smoke and it quietens down. The longer you go on, the fewer the remaining triggers, and the less urgent they become.

"Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain."

Best foot forward. You can TOTALLY do this!

Helen

Aww thank you so much Helen. I totally agree one day at a time and I think this approach also keeps the fear at bay!

Hello Mrs Mash. I think you learn something from each attempt to quit. If you're lucky you get everything in place first time but for the rest of us, we have to keep trying until we get it right. So take what you've learnt from before, from the books you are reading & the posts here and do everything possible to set yourself up to succeed completing your first hour, your first day, and so on.

I'd like to wish you and your husband the very best of luck.

Thank you Sally

Nice to meet you Mrs Marsh xx

Morning dear Mrs Mash :D

It's so lovely to see you and Mina again and to know that you're both planning to make this quit The One. I have a feeling it is your time and that 2015 is going to be the year you both break away for good from the Demon Nic. I shall be cheering you on and if there is anything I can do or say to help just ask.

There will always be a place for you in the Nov/Dec 2013 social group by the way....:)

All the best to you and here's a (non-alcoholic) toast to your success.
