Good for you Linda. The key is to learn from each temporary set back in my opinion. Use it in your favour. Remember the empty feeling of giving in to nicotine and use that as your weapon against temptation in the future.

I posted this before, but I always keep this memory with me and it really helps.

Once in a previous quit attempt I decided none of it was worth it and i wanted to smoke. I half trashed my room for change and rushed down to the shop for 10 B&H silver and a disposable lighter, hopping down the garden with my shoes half on - really excited.

I got to the shop and bought it all, got outside and I was so excited I could barely get the plastic off of the box. Eventually I did and put one in my mouth.

"I've not smoked for 9 days, boy is this going to be sweet"

As soon as I filled my lungs, I felt sick. It wasn't nice at all, I'd tricked myself, thrown it all away.

From then on when I started pulling my hair out I reminded myself what giving in feels like, and it has helped ever since!!!

Really well done Mannion.

I can so relate to your story of virtually running down to the shop or on some occasions the all night garage at some stupid hour of the morning, but then that fag you so desperately wanted has gone in about two minutes flat and you're left feeling such a chump for throwing away all your hard work.

Not this time for you and I; we have too much invested. I entered this room in mid December. I really feel like a 100% non smoker now. I went out tonight and I doubt that smoking crossed my mind even once - it hardly ever does now.

That said I will not get complacement because I've quit for longer than this before and stumbled so i will continue to count my blessings and try to keep fresh in my mind the hatred of smoking that gave me the initial strength to get through the tough early weeks.

Good luck

Congrats, mannion!

Keep it up.

As for your story, I've had this exact same thing, many times and its quite remarkable isnt it lol. One difference though, I never had the realisation that you did. I ALWAYS enjoyed that first one again! Really I did, thought it was heaven. Thats why I know now that I really really really cant afford any slips, or I guarantee I'll be a smoker again.

But hey ho that was the past. :p

There have been, and continue to be one after another, then another other, followed by another amazing, life changing achievement going on amongst the crew here.
