day 4 for me.

now it's day for for me... i have to sleep tho. i wake up in 12 hours (half the day goes by) and then ill tell you how im doing.

i didn't slip up on day 3, but thinking about quitting these boards.

it's not easy, no one said it would be,

but if i do slip, ill just feel added pressure... and pain.

kind of like at church when they tell you how god doesn't want you to sin, and then you do something oh so terrible... like that

anyways, my dad gave me a helpful pointer...

he said carry only ONE smoke with you the WHOLE day/night...

(he quit successfully using zyban)...

he said the trick is when you are craving, only have a couple or few puffs, and butt out. keep that smoke with you the whole day... and only puff when you're really really craving, because you can only have that ONE the whole day.

one isn't really so bad. if you can handle that!

I disagree with this method of quitting. You are prolonging the craving by doing this because the nicotine never gets a chance to leave your system. Quitting is quitting - either quit or smoke. I don't believe in half way quit! If you are smoking even one a day you are still putting all of the bad chemicals into your body. The habit will not be broken because you will still be smoking a cigarette. Bad idea in my opinion - but what do I know?!~~ Anyone else have an opinion about this?

i dunno, i think some have different opinions than me, which is fine.

my dad quit smoking this way and he is a very smart man.

i was doing fine today until i went to my smoker friends house. her whole family was there, they chain smoke. i was fine for the first hour and then caved in and had one.

i still feel no cravings other than just being in her house.

im still sure ill be fine.

yes, disapointed in myself, but still fighting to stay strong.

and i am 100% sure i will not go back to day one all over again because of one smoke i had in my friends house. i believe it's still like continuing day 4 as long as i stay strong.

Many people here including myself are what I categorise as 'Serial quitters' we quit and MANAGE the occasional one then here we are quitting again.

Everyone is different but a non smoker needs to be free, your methods I am afraid may cause you great more pain as you are always thinking about when you can have the next cigarette and counting how many you have had etc, it is neither committed to smoking nor not smoking.

This will make you weak in relation to becoming a non smoker.

I would recommend that you do discuss your feelings with your doctor, not only can they help you with a cessation nurse, which is proven to help more than quitting alone. I also feel that you may be a little low and there may be underlying reasons for that too. Your talk of quitting 'these boards' makes me feel that you are not 100 % in how you really feel.

I am sure your father is a very wise man, however, you need to take control.

This I have NOT done.

This will make you weak in relation to becoming a non smoker.

if everyone is different in quitting, than what makes me weak?

I am strong.

I also feel that you may be a little low and there may be underlying reasons for that too.

you've stated plenty of times that you feel i do not take control and now saying im low, so im assuming you mean self-esteem?

are you a shrink?

honestly how can you say that? you do NOT know me. do not assume you understand.

Your talk of quitting 'these boards' makes me feel that you are not 100 % in how you really feel.

it's because of all the pressure. and if i slip i feel terrible because thats how a lot of people around here have contributed to making me feel.

yes again, you do NOT know me, i am very serious about quitting smoking.

my mother died of cancer from smoking, and i do NOT want to smell anymore or wonder... when i get free time to have my next smoke.

It is a very sad situation you are in. I think you want to quit for all the wrong reasons. I think you think you want to quit and that you SHOULD quit, but you don't really want to or else you wouldn't talk the way you do. A person who is committed to the quit would not speak so bluntly and non shalant about having a cigarette every now and then. Especially when they are only on day 4. To us, it sounds as though you have no fight in you and you don't care if you slip or not. We are not atacking you as you may feel we are, but we are trying to help you by saying that smoking once in awhile will make things harder for YOU.
