There are many things to bide your time with, reading, writing, walking, jogging phone calls etc the best thing is to write down all the things you like to do!!
Also some physical things to do, fiddle with beads, chew gum, doodle etc
Remember a crave doesn't last 5mins!! so if you can busy yourself for 10 mins you have rode it out nicely!!
also write down some rewards to keep you going, after 1 day buy a magazine, 2 days a cd etc etc
Save the money that you are not spending and use it to treat yourself!!
Drinking water regularly and eating little and often are also good ways to keep craves to a minimum!
Eating is pretty easy to do when not smoking hehehehe
I am actually using Allen Carr's Easy Way, which I have found a real eye opener. However my only problem has been the cravings. Buffy, thanks for the tips, already doing the water, eating regularly ( and healthy). At least i am not pulling my hair out. I also slept so well last night which is a real bonus.
The cravings are there to tempt you (and me!) but we can beat them! You sound determined and that's a good start. think.. you only have a few days to get through and then you can look forward to being a nonsmoker
Do you think you ever actually get over being a smoker? I have heard so many stories of people stopping for a couple of years and then starting again. I would not want to be like that!!
I've heard those too and they do worry me a bit, i must confess. But then again, Alan Carr does make the point quite strongly asking why anyone would, knowing the result, stick a tube of paper stuffed with chemicals and dried leaves into his/her mouth, light it and then breathe it in! I mean why would you if you've got over the craving? Hey, let's cross that bridge when we get there!
Great job on your decision to quit I often wonder the same thing as you are wondering. Do the cravings ever disappear completely?!! Well I am on day 8 today and some days are worse than others, but for the most part I am feeling pretty good. This forum helps sooooo much - great people. Keep your head up and stay strong
Mark, Alan Carr's best efforts lasted 17hrs for me. Don't get me wrong, that's not a boast, rather it's an admition of just how pathetic i was. So .. as you can see from my sig, nothing has worked over the years but now a health shock plus this great community have combined to get me further than I've ever been before.
It is so inspiring to hear how well everyone is doing and there is great support here.
I will definately keep coming here for support IF things get tough. I'm thinking that the first couple of days will be the toughest. They haven't been too bad so I KNOW I will do this.
