Hello;

I'm now on day 5 and I'm having trouble; the pangs seem to have come back and I really want to smoke. Last night my housemate and I nearly went out and bought some Marlboro!

Heya Russeboy,

Well Done to your and your buddy for not giving in!!

The pangs do come hard don't they! If you really look though, they don't last long. The thought, of physically smoking and ruining all the hard work, is not a happy one!

Try and find something to do other than obsess when the craves hit, ie sip water, close your eyes and deep breath imagine something wonderful that makes you happy! eat something, read, knit! post up a message here :D he he anything to help you through x x x x

You are nearlly to the 1 week mark!! You must be well proud!!

Onwards and Upwards, Stay strong x x

Thanks Buffy;

The pangs come and go; some come quite hard though. I have cancelled going out this weekend so I dont get drunk and smoke!

My skin has improved ten fold my mum asked if I had been away I looked so good!

He he yes I agree, it may be a little to soon to be out drinking.

The skin thing amazed me too! it's great to see the benefits so soon, it's a positive push forward :D

Hi russeboy

I've cancelled any drinking plans for the weekend too. I've decided that I need to give my liver a break and really look after my quit so I'm having no alcohol for at least a month. I've quit smoking at least 3 times before for 2-3 weeks a time and it's always been alcohol on a weekend that's ruined my quit for me. It's really not worth it. You have to break the association with alcohol/pubs. I'm going to try the following:

1. Go to the pub and sit in the non smoking section and drink a non alcoholic drink (try this 4 times)

2. Go to the pub and sit in the smoking section and drink a non alcoholic drink.

3. Have a glass of wine at home with non smoking friends

4. Have a couple of glasses of wine at home as above (but enough to feel quite drunk)

6. Have a glass of wine in the non smoking section of a pub etc etc.

How are you quitting anyway? Are you cold turkey or NRT?

Good luck to you at the weekend anyway. I think weekends are one of the toughest hurdles

Hello;

I'm going cold turkey; I feel that if I use NRT I am just putting off the pangs when I stop the nicotine intake from NRT.

I am staying in tonight; I may have some beers in front of the TV; as I dont have any cigs in the house I cant fall into having one. Plus; I will have had some beers so cant drive and get some cigs!

If you're doing it cold turkey I highly recommend the whyquit.com web site. There is a section called Joel's library which is full of facts and advice for those quitting without NRT. I found it to be really motivational and taught me a lot about what to expect with my quit. Apparently your craves peak at 72 hours and after 10 days physical craves should be pretty much non existent as you are no longer physically addicted to nicotine it is just the mental association you have to break. Pass the three week point and you are on to a winner.

Good luck this weekend mate – we are both doing really well.
