my dental hygienist husband passed and they were trying to do a direct donation to me. The transplant team came and talk to me about surgery and everything. But last Saturday I was at zoo with my grown son . By the otter exhibit they’re like two round steps you can see jo hand rails at all. Well I miss a step my ankle broken in three places . Anyway the orthopedic doc and transplant team thought it would be ok but after meeting they figure if I had to be on immunotherapy drugs with this foot still chance of infection. And she said they want you walking after surgey .

It is such a bad break doc said only 6 percent of ankle sprains are like this . They had groups of medical students in discussions my break . I had the external screws on the foot last sunday had a problem with anesthesia they said I had a weird reaction I’m going to need to wear a medical bracelet saying they can’t do a certain type of anesthesia

When they set my foot when I came in the sedation didn’t work and they pull it without sedation they said a grown 300 pound man would be out with this I am just really weird .

All I know is the blood type was a match and I think they were still checking in other stuff but they had to reject it cause of my foot I hope it went to some little kid or a mama or daddy of little kids anyone who is great fil for it .

it just wandering if I didn’t break my ankle would I be laying here in hospital for a differnt reason

While reading your story I became teary eyed. I am so sorry you had to go through this. Once you heal there will be another chance for a kidney. I wish you the very best and will keep you in my prayers.

Sending hugs! This is such a difficult thing - to be sidelined without warning. Even though this kidney passed you by, you're still accruing time towards that new kidney! Keep the faith - things will work out for you.

I am so sorry to hear. I know how disappointed it must feel but perhaps the next one coming your way will be even better.

Ugh, Beachgirl I’m so sorry! I can feel your disappointment but perhaps there is a reason. It’s good the shorter ankle surgery led the doctors to discover you had reactions to anesthesia. Now when you get your transplant they will be prepared.

I was put on hold last fall for a steroid allergy after getting a couple of really poor quality kidney offers. I was so disappointed! The wait was difficult but I look back and realize it all worked out for my good. I got a wonderful kidney with no conditions 5 days after I was reactivated.

Praying your ankle heals fast and well. And try not to be discouraged- the kidney that is meant for you is coming!

Jeepers, that sucks. I would ask the Transplant team about paired donation. They met the requirement of a donated kidney in your name that was destined for you. Under the paired donation, they should step up and get you one when you can. But the program is for live donation. I would pursue it on a chance it might escalate you up the list. So sorry about the ankle.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! That is so disappointing! Hang in there. I have faith that you will get your chance soon. Things happen for a reason. Perhaps the next kidney that comes up for you will be even better. Good thoughts and prayers are going your way!

Oh my gosh - I’m so very sorry to hear about this occurrence. How gracious of you to hope some mom or dad of a kiddo received it.

This is so sad. My grandson got a kidney in July of '22 and we had a long few hours where they thought he might be positive for Covid and therefore they could not go ahead with the trans[plant...we were lucky and got the all clear, but I know that sinking feeling and enormous disappointment had we not been as fortunate. I wish another kidney for you soon.

I'm.so sorry Beachgirl. You have been through a lot. In my dialysis unit, there has been a lot of patients called by the transplant team only for the kidney or them to be rejected for some reason. I understand how upsetting it can be. However I have now formed the opinion, that maybe that kidney wasn't for you. Yes it might have ticked all the boxes but maybe something couldn't have happened after the transplant. I believe things happen for a reason. Maybe someone desperately needed that kidney etc. Your turn will come my friend. Take it easy xx
